Editorial Reviews

150gm vinyl LP pressing includes full color insert and download. 2013 debut album from the Dutch multi-instrumentalist and producer. The 12 tracks that make up Cabinet of Curiosities deftly explore the loss of innocence in a far more accomplished and mature way than you would expect from a 24 yr old, fulfilling the promises made by his first two singles. His melodic palette colors music with a more UK-sensibility, where minor chords and plush harmonies brush up against strings, mellotrons, harpsichords and an occasional squeezebox. The overall feel is more Zombies than Left Banke and more Nirvana and Billy Nicholls than Beach Boys and Van Dyke Parks.

This album has an amazing sound - lush, layered with a late '60s vibe. Great lyrics, varied instrumentation (harpsichord, guitar, synth, flute, etc.). Haven't had an album suck me in this quickly in quite some time. If you're a fan of other groups mining the same vein these days (Tame Impala, MGMT, etc.) you will love this modern interpretation of a classic sound.

This music sends me off into my fairy-tale dreamland...just where I want to be...Although he takes much from Syd Barrett (whom I love) it isn't exactly a copy-cat experience. This is unique and beautiful ...totally different from anything out there at the moment. I listen to this just about every day.

This album seems to have came out of nowhere. I hadn't heard a word about this guy until one day, BAM! it appeared in the recommended by amazon section. Intrigued by the cover art, I checked it out and am I glad that I did.

If you like the sound of the 60's, lush landscapes of wavey-groovey sounds, day-glo vocals, great songwriting, and semi-tight musicianship, this is one you've got to hear.

Really, there's nothing here that's mind-blowing, but to know that this is the creation of a kid who played all instruments except the drums and wrote these songs, you can really appreciate the work done here. Wait until Sunday, brew some good arabica coffee, put on this record, sit down and relax, and let your mind drift. It's a great trip.

very enjoyable album. Feels like 1967 and the summer of love. Trippy! Really enjoyed this.. I will say however that the amazon.com bio on the vinyl is a little misleading.. say's randomly colored vinyl, well my random color was black.. oh well. It sounds good. I just always find it a treat to see what color I will get. Maybe just my bad luck. You'll enjoy the album though, nice high quality sound on the vinyl.

So goes post-modernity: recycle the already recycled and then recycle it again. Sample the past and tweak it with the present. Here you go. Arnold Layne meets the Shamen in Paul Roland's cottage on Julian Cope's private Welsh resort. All so beautiful and memorable. I love recycling when it is dones this well, mellotrons, harpsichords, telecasters and magic mushrumps.

I heard this album once & immediately purchased it. Usually a rare thing for me but as a lover of psychedelic music, I was hooked immediately. This guy is amazing, very hypnotic music that immediately sends your mind to some kind of wonderland.

Some reviewers are comparing him to Syd Barrett which for me is not entirely true. He may be similar in some aspects, for me the last song does remind me of Syd but this guy really has a great sound and it is his own.

Revised since first post: I've been listening to this album a whole lot since I've purchased it, can't take it out of my player - really love it. Go buy it now!

It starts like a British pop album from the 70s and takes the listener to different stories and atmospheres, from the colorful "Clear the Air" to the circus/fair of "The Riddle". A great mix of genres.
