To determine what graphics card you can use, you also need to know how much power can be drawn over the PCI-e slot your graphics card is plugged into (typically 75W, but less for some small form factor PCs) and also what your power supply is rated to supply. So you need to do your research and confirm the specs. Understanding these constraints, along with options provided by software like MSI Afterburner to limit the peak power consumption of a GPU, you can safely use this adapter with an appropriate graphics card.
For my personal case, I am using this adapter for an EVGA GTX 1660 TI (8-pin PCI-e connector) connected to an HP Z240 Tower workstation w/400W 80+ platinum rated PSU (6-pin PCI-e cable/connector). For the Z240, I would want to keep the power draw of the GPU under 150W (75W over the 6-pin PCI-e from the PSU+ 75W over the PCI-e slot). The EVGA card (which is overclocked compared to reference Nvidia) spec says the power draw is up to 160W. So I use MSI Afterburner to power limit the GPU at 90% to keep the max power draw to under 150W.
Ground yourself by touching metal case before moving graphics card out. Be careful of components. I had to turn my PC sideways because the card has heft to it, (and my connected two 120mm fans with negative pressure on the case,) to make sure that it would not destroy itself due to gravity. Works well. Did install the power connector after it had already been placed, in the future I would advise the connector be placed on the card before install however I had no problems doing it this way.
This even came with two connectors, so I'm trying on another low budget build next with other components.

To cut a long story short I have a workstation that while still hugely powerful by today's standards, wasn't fitted with the infernal eight pin PCi express power connectors. In fact, until I went to fit my pre-loved 1080ti I had no idea such a thing even existed. (I've been retired for a number of years now and haven't kept up...)
So in goes the 1080 and in goes on six-pin PCi power line and ... oh shirt! Wait that's not a six pin socket - and it wasn't about to let me fit the extra six pin power which was originally intended for a second card in an SLI configuration.
Oh woe was me, I'm stuck with the aging card that I'd got years back and wasn't really up for SLI... first option we found, also on Amazon was less than ideal - a pair of Molex-to-PCie 8-pin. While that would have worked (the PSU is more than capable of providing enough power - the cable runs would have been rather long and ugly.
Enter these little beauties. They're only short (about four inches in old money) and connect the older 6-pin PCie power converting it into an 8-pin affair.
Long story short, I now have a happy computer and I can learn to fly in FS2020!
Thanks Cable Matters, you saved my sanity!

The moulding and finishing are fine and will stand up to several plug/unplug cycles.
Overall not bad for the money, and I would buy these again if needed.

Instead of waiting weeks to get a replacement cable, I bought this pair of adaptors that go from 6-pin back up to 8-pin with cable loops. They arrived the next day, and a little while later the new card was installed, powered, and I was a happy camper. Nicely made and the connectors fit easily but snugly. This was the best solution I could've hoped for.

For me a twin pack was spot on as I was installing two cards running in SLI mode but at this price if I only needed one I would still have made the purchase and kept the second as a spare.
