Great HDMI to DVI Female Adapter - except 2 pins were bent

I brought this HDMI to DVI Female Adapter for my wife's 24 inch ASUS 1080p LCD-LED Monitor so she could use it to plug her Dell Studio XPS 1747 Laptop into the DVI port. The Monitor had an HDMI port as well but for whatever reason the Video Card on her laptop would only allow it to use 22inches of the 24inch screen. Since I know all 24 inches worked previously (This monitor had briefly been my Son's monitor) I wanted to get the full realestate working again. Since it had worked fine with the DVI port on my Son's PC I wanted to try that buy my wife's Laptop had only the HDMI or VGA ports available (The VGA option used the entire screen but the picture was fuzzy). This adpter was the perfect solution to my problems at only 3 bucks (It was technically a penny but there was $2.98 for shipping) once I plugged this adpter into my HDMI plug and into the monitor, I booted up the Laptop and had all 24 inches of the screen.

The only problem I had with the adapter was it came bent with 2 pins which caused it not be able to plug into the monitor at first. Luckly, I've had several years of straightening out bent hardware related pins for an assortment of PC related perrefihals and was able to remedy it, However I did knock of a star for recieving it in that condition.

Overall, I would recommend this product if you are in a similar situation or if the monitor you have does not have a HDMI port. As far as the bent pins I was probably the 1 millionith customer.

This product worked as advertised and matched the product description and picture. Anytime you are dealing with DVI you have to watch out for the type of DVI cable. If the product doesn't work for you it may not be the products fault as it was in my case. It turns out the monitors and TVs I tried it on were all more then 3 years old and something must of changed with the DVI specifications because there were no DVI to HDMI converters that worked. I tried 5 different converters including cables and dongles like this one. I finally went into a store and tried a dongle there and it worked flawlessly, when I got it back to my monitors and tv it failed again. It turns out when the feedback is wrong the sending device will see the connection as only supporting 720p instead of 1080. I only found this out when connecting my tablet to an older tv that could handle 720p and it had a message from the tablet stating it was a 720p connection which the tablet could not handle. Computer monitors just fail to see the signal.

I bought this so I could have an inexpensive way to play my Playstation 3 in High Definition. I already have a 720P computer monitor with a VGA and DVI-D input. I already use the VGA for my computer, so why not fill the DVI-D? That's exactly what this does. I couldn't afford a new HD TV, so this adapter did the trick. What it does is, you put the HDMI cable in the female end and you attach the male end into your monitor's (or TV's if it has one) DVI-D port.

Be warned though, if your monitor doesn't have any speakers on it, you will have to find another way to get sound. For me, I left the A/V cable plugged into my PS3. I have a stereo I barely use, which has a white and red audio cable input that I used for my MP3 Player. I now use that stereo to play audio from the PS3 and the Monitor to display picture. For the price I paid ($2, if I can't say that, then less than double digits in US dollars), I get 720P HD quality and good use of my Stereo and Monitor.

The picture at the monitor through this adapter is flawless to me, so I am at a loss to find anything to down-rate it on.

In my case, HDMI comes from a DVD player, and at the monitor I convert the HDMI cable to the DVI connector the monitor has.

This monitor has an inset with the DVI connector pointing down inside that, and the length of the cable connector plus the adapter is almost, but not quite, too long to fit into the inset. It was a devil to get the plugs to slide in. What I did is start both connections slightly, to leave some wiggle room, and slide both on simultaneously. If either connection was done before the other, I couldn't get the last one on without breaking something. The cable had a very sharp bend in it when it was done.

This is a simple product, it allows you to connect your HDMI device, likely a TV, to your computer with a DVI output. HDMI and DVI have the same digital signature for video, so the signal isn't being changed in the adaptor, but the pin configuration is so you can plug in an HDMI cable. Also, be aware that since DVI cannot transmit audio, then your signal on the HDMI cable will not have any audio.

I am having an overscan issue with this adapter. Overscan, is a problem when the picture is chopped off on the display. I'm missing maybe 20 pixels on each side. There are ways to adjust this in software, but it can be annoying or challenging. This problem may be a product of my configuration though. I have a video card with DisplayLink output, and the card came with a DisplayLink to DVI adapter. I then plugged this product into that adapter, to allow me to send the signal over HDMI to the TV. The overscan issue may be a result of using this combination of adapters, not this particular product.
