Also, this adapter is not necessary for newer Operating systems and hardware, which can connect two computers using a regular ether cable, not requiring a crossover cable.
Having used these adapters before, I'm not going to any details about their Use and Function ... basically, if you know what they are, you should already know their applications.
Past experience is that they have worked well and lasted, although the constant vapor of sea salts are a real nuisance and wreak havoc on everything, not complaining, just stating the obvious.
I'll let other reviewers add to the discussion. Thanks for stopping by ...
Why does anyone need a crossover adapter, or for that matter, a crossover cable. Because the standard RJ-45 plug and cable have several standards of wiring, and format of communication between a computer and network enabled device.
I bounce between situations that often need a crossover cable. Which meant that I had to carry two user cords, also known as network cables, to work sites. I needed at least 10 meters (about 32 feet) of cable. Big pain.
With the crossover adapter, I only need one cable...nirvana.
The quality of Cables Unlimited Cat6 Adapter is solid and sturdy; very high quality. Which means it won't break for a long time. I bought four of them because I knew three would get snatched from me at work. That's exactly what happened.
Yes, I do recommend this little solver of big problems.
Works just fine.
It easily converts your standard Cat 6 or Cat 5E patch cable into a crossover cable if you don't want to buy/make a new one. Use it to keep yourself from unnecessarily building up different types of patch cables, or keep it as a backup in case you can't find a crossover. You can duct tape it to a key chain (if you're man enough), or just leave it plugged into an old networking switch.
One thing I do feel is worth mentioning, though, is that the port where you plug your cable into the adapter is in the opposite orientation from the plug protruding from it. (It essentially rotates the terminus of your cable by 180°.) However, this does not in any way hamper the functionality of the adapter, since you're probably plugging a flexible cable into it anyway. :D
At any rate, five stars for lazy awesomeness!
One day I was out of the office and my boss needed a long patch cable. I didn't have one, so we had to live with reverting our network configuration to how it was previously set up until we could get a new cable in our hands.
I bought this adapter to have on hand for any future emergencies. I tested it and it works great.
A must have for any Network Administrator or IT Professional who wants to have the right gear on hand for any emergency.
