Update: This device worked so well that I bought 2 more for an application that required 3 serial ports. They work together just fine.
This USB to Serial adapter works flawlessly for me. Here's the scenario: I have an older programming cable with DB-9 to 3.5mm 3-conductor plug. I've used it on many PCs with various Windows operating systems to program Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood radios (with proper 3.5mm to various adapters) with legacy serial connectors, or more recently, a Lenovo T400 with a 2504 docking station with DB-9 serial connector.
I could not get any Prolific chipset USB to serial adapter to work with my cable on a Lenovo T410 running Windows 8.1. This adapter is recognized by both the T400 and T410 by Windows 7 and Windows 8, respectively (no need to use the driver CD). My old DB-9 cable now works perfectly plugged into the adapter's DB-9 socket.
These programming cables can be a tricky business, so I'm confident most other DB-9 based devices would be happy with this USB serial port.
Given the low price of this adapter, I'm very happy.

Works without issues, unlike the ones with the Prolific chips. I uses these a lot, making serial connections is a critical part of my job (network engineer).Published 1 month ago by MikeS
Windows 10 automatically recognizes this as an FTDI chipset adapter. Did not have a problem with my serial communications. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Hakan Kilic
