I use this in my car to charge my cell phone. My cell phone cradle is a cell signal booster with a USB mini A input to power up. It has a USB mini A port as a power tap. I use this from the power tap to the phone which means I have 1 less cable that dangles from the dash down to the 12 volt power outlets.

It provided signal and some power when connected from an unpowered computer micro-A/B USB to a powered hub. (Note. I could not use the computer unpowered micro-A/B to powered hub because somehow the powered hub did not provide enough for a USB portable hard disk. I switched to a powered USB computer connection with a regular USB connector and the powered USB hub provided enough power to the USB portable hard disk.)
