As a fan of Neil Gaiman I was very excited to see this book come out. However, there was a lot more to love about this collection than just the Gaiman story. The story by David Vaughan was probably my favorite in the whole anthology, a really clever take on the Cthulhu mythology. Love this whole book, anyone looking for a fun read will enjoy it!!
While there are a couple of stories that didn't appeal to me, the majority ranged from entertaining to excellent. This is a nice break from serious horror to enjoy a some laughs and numerous "inside" references that Lovecraft aficionados will enjoy.
Lovecraft lovers will love, Cthulhu haters will love also. I dislike Howard's writing style, and think Cthulhu is overdone. I did not believe I would be giggling out loud during some of the stories. Come laugh at the great old one. I also knows I missed a lot of inner jokes so look for them.
There is not one single laugh to be found anywhere in this book. Not one. Anywhere. Not even so much as a Derisive Snort. A couple of the stories *might* have worked as straight-up Mythos works -- as humor, nope.
I hang the blame for this appalling failure on the editor; having looked up some of his other editing works, it is painfully apparent he wouldn't know Humor if it swam up and bit him on his a--.
