Featuring a new transceiver design and powered by 2 AAA 1.5V batteries, each Cactus V5 unit serves as either a wireless flash transmitter or wireless flash receiver. The frequency self-tune (fast) feature enables Cactus V5 to automatically Tune itself to its last working frequency when exposed to extreme weather conditions such as a sudden and large temperature change. Multi-channel triggering allows simultaneous triggering of up to four (4) sets of light sources, all controlled through one transmitting unit and camera. Cactus V5 is the most reliable wireless flash transceiver for photographers with budget in mind.

One of the greatest features is each unit is both transmitter or a receiver, selected by the power slide switch on the side, slide it one way it transmits, slide it the other way it receives. If you only buy a pair you won't see this as an advantage; but for those of us that use more than two its a huge feature providing tremendous flexibility. For example, I have four V5's and have used them in the following configurations:
1 V5 set to transmit on camera hot shoe triggering between 1-3 V5 equipped strobes set to receive. I can set each flash to a different channel and by changing channel on the transmitter select any individual strobe OR by changing to a group channel I can fire them all.
Yesterday I was firing a complicated setup:
#1 V5 in my hand to transmit, #2 V5 set to receive and plugged in to the camera remote shutter port; #3 V5 on my camera hotshoe mount is set to transmit and has a bounce flash "daisy chained" on top and finally #4 V5 is set to receive at my umbrella reflector. When I press the button on #1 half way, #2 focuses the camera. When I push #1 button in all the way #2 trips the camera shutter, the camera hotshoe tells #3 to fire the bounce flash and the flash connected to #4.
I hope that made sense. With any other brand, to do what I did in my second scenario I would have needed to buy a second transmitter, but with my Cactus V5's I just flipped a switch.
I'm going to buy two more to increase the number of flash units I can fire wirelessly, and I'm considering buying more after that just to keep on hand as spares, I expect to be using my V5's for many, many years.
If you are a casual user of triggers and looking for a cheap solution, I would definitely recommend these. Just don't shoot around hard surfaces because if it falls, there is a HIGH probability that the until will not survive the fall.
They are cheap and will brake on you, purchase backup units or consider them a temporary unit.
Overall - a good buy
1- Low cost...
2- Good distance
3- easy to use
4- great packaging (but really that's over kill for what's needed
1 - Battery life....if you don't remember to turn of the switches on each of them, they will eat your batteries. That can be costly if it's the first few shots you take.
2 - Battery location....I have several times, inadvertantly touched the battery tray as i slide the unit on the camera. This can open the battery section without it being obvious. While I am cursing the device for not working, it's because the battery tray is not closed all the way, not making contact.
3 - The dial switch for the channel, very small, hard to read on location. Several times, one of the units will get switched, and then it appears it's not working, when really it's on the wrong channel.
4 - The dial for the tension to put on the camera or flash is difficult to turn to create that tension....paitence is a must.
5 - The plastic bases are very thin. I suspect I'll end up breaking one of those soon.
My only con is the tightener. They need an updated design on this. It is harder than it should be, but I get it to work.
