The packaging has varied considerably across all of the individual specimens I've ordered. The original couple of boxes were very carefully wrapped in both tissue paper and foam sheeting, then placed in a form-fitting cardboard box inside a slightly larger box with some additional foam padding between the two cardboard cartons. On the next few, the inner cardboard boxes came in absurdly large outer cartons. More recently, they seemed to have figured out how to comfortably ship a single, medium-sized outer box with good interior foam padding, but the last one to arrive once again came in an enormous outer carton that barely fit through my front door. I also shudder to think what shipping costs for something like that would be if it weren't covered by Prime.
Though I like this box enough to buy over a dozen of them (with plans to buy at least one more over the next few months), I do have a couple minor complaints. The first, and by far the largest, is the price: the first one I bought cost only about $40 at the time, but they have now ballooned to around $80. In and of itself, this is not a terrific expense when we're talking about 20 watches per box that can cost hundreds of dollars apiece, but it's irritating - particularly the manner in which it has occurred with no warning, explanation, or obvious reason for it. Also, that price for just a veneer? Second, craftsmanship is not as stellar as said higher price would have you believe. At least a couple of mine have latches on the upper lids that don't *quite* fit together perfectly (they can usually be latched with a little bit of coaxing, but I frankly shouldn't have to), along with hinges that have a bit more lateral play in them than they perhaps should. Having said all this, I recently discovered - while carrying the latest arrival in to the room where I store them - that that seemingly cheap veneer is surprisingly sturdy! I accidentally bashed a corner of one of the boxes against the door knob as I was walking through the door, and I can find no evidence thereof.
All in all, they're highly serviceable, and I still recommend them, but just don't expect something worthy of a museum display piece.
The case has a shiny Rosewood case. The finish is really well-done and it has a glass see-through window at the top. When you receive the case (which fortunately was well-packaged), you will see the key attached to a cardboard under the window. So, no goo or anything stuck to the window which is a plus. key to lock the case on top. But others who have reviewed, made a way to lock their bottom drawer.
This is probably the most important part that a lot of people are wondering about. The top drawer will hold XL watches, especially for those who are Android, Invicta or G-Shock/Protrek (Pathfinder) watch users, you get 10 slots. The pillows are well-done and are vinyl, so no flimsy cloth pillows. The watches should not come in contact with the window, but I had one that did but mainly because it was the bracelet that pushed one of my watches up that caused that problem, not the case. But so far, a lot of my big watches are able to fit perfectly on the top row.
The bottom drawer, like most of the other cases out there are primarily for watches that are 44" or smaller and holds 10. Those with chunky 50+ watches are probably best going for wall cases or the 24 XL watch cases.
The reason why I bought this case was its price. Compared to other 20 watch cases, this was the most affordable and durable. Others complained about how the surroundings were cheaply made and the cushions were cloth. So, for its price, you can't go wrong! This is a solid case!
I am very happy that I chose this case for my watches. Big and small, this watch is perfect as my bigger watches can stay on top, smaller watches on bottom. Granted, as there are many who are going for size 48" diameter watches as of late, once again, a lot of these cases are not going to satisfy your needs as most will handle those sizes at the top but not at the bottom. For those with larger watches may want to go with the vertical wall-case or the case that holds 24.
For those who stay within 44" or under, this case is perfect! Highly recommended!
1. The lock is put on crocked. It doesn't completely destroy the "look" but is is a flaw nonetheless.
2. The lower drawer can only hold very slim watches. Since I have only two or three such watches, this space is a waste.
If I paid more, I would return it, but for now, it will hold some of my watches and I guess that's all I need it to do.
Update: They got a few in stock and I ordered another one. It matches perfectly and is as good in fit and finish as the first one. (Beware: it's true what they say, your collection grows to fit the available space. I'm already well on my way to filling the second one...)
