The twists in this book were awesome and definitely continued to suck me in as I turned the pages. The sex was hot, hot ,hot. And having read Elodie Parkes before, I could trust she would deliver on the best. This author knows how to turn up the heat! The story didn't lack as I was surprised to learn who actually Chris was. I also was quite impressed in the way the author retains the HEA in the story considering the complications involving Chris.
I hate to give spoilers. All I can say is Chris isn't what he seems, except he is one hot alpha!
I am always on the lookout for new authors so I was pleased to be allowed the opportunity to read Café in the Park by Elodie Parkes. It can be a bit unnerving when reading a new author because you just don't know what to expect. Therefore, I am so pleased to have discovered Ms. Parkes because she has written a sweet book that was a pleasure to read.
Emily has decided that it's time to do something about the loneliness that she is feeling. She is ready to put herself out there and signs up for several dating sites. Through one of the sites she meets Chris who understands her loneliness and is also looking to make a connection. The chemistry between the two is hot and their emotional connection is just as strong. But Chris is hiding a big secret from Emily which comes back to haunt him.
Emily and Chris were so believable in their loneliness. I think anyone who reads this book will sympathize and understand where these two are coming from. It takes a brave soul to put aside their fear and make an attempt to connect with another human being and the fact that both Emily and Chris made this effort made me want them to find their happy ending.
As Chris and Emily grew closer, Chris' secret began to have rear its ugly head. There were so many reasons for Emily to just walk away and give up on Chris, but she didn't. At first I wasn't buying that she would be so forgiving, but as more of her character was revealed, her ability to forgive made more sense and I found myself admiring her for not giving up.
I credit Ms. Parkes and her writing for helping me to understand Emily and her motivations. She also did an amazing job in showing the sweeter side of Chris. This was necessary for me to see so that I would want Emily to forgive him. I appreciate characters that aren't perfect and make mistakes because it makes them more real. As long as the mistakes are made with the best of intentions, which Chris' were, then I can still respect a character.
The dialogue was a bit choppy and didn't flow as naturally as the rest of the story, but overall the content was there. The story flowed easily and my attention was grabbed from the first pages. The suspense aspect of the story was resolved a little too easily for my tastes, but I like how Ms. Parkes set up the happily ever after aspect.
Overall, I am happy to have discovered Ms. Parkes and I look forward to reading more of her stories.
Chris is immediately enthralled with Emily, but he has a secret that could destroy any chance they have for love.
Elodie Parkes continues to surprise me with her stories. I couldn't read this one fast enough, but I also didn't want it to end. If you like intensely emotional, sexy shifter romance, I highly recommend you read Café in the Park.
It is impossible not the feel the ache and loneliness that surrounds Emily and Chris at the beginning of the story, both looking for love in a world that seems to be moving on without them. Can two lonely hearts find love in each other?
I especially connected with Chris, a man who seemed to have everything but the one thing he desperately wanted.
I loved Emily because instead of running and hardening her heart when things got rough, she was willing to put her heart out there and give Chris a second chance. I really wished a lot of fictional heroines were that brave.
All in all, this is a heart-warming story laced with doses of steam and a dash of suspense. I would've loved to have the suspense elements a bit more developed but it didn't stop my enjoyment. Loved it.
