My review is meant to help potential BUYERS! I have no interest in seeking out said author.
I have reported and will CONTINUE TO REPORT ANY BULLYING OF ANY SORT. Contrary to common belief Amazon does care about targeting of reviewers and they have several features in place to address; friend/foe votes etc. They also have the ability to revoke voting privileges for a user permanently. So keep that in mind when you rally to ATTACK a 1-star reviewer of your favorite author.
I bought Axel, eBook 1 last July before my vacation, typed up a review and went to post upon my return, but couldn't find the book on Amazon. Apparently as I discovered the book cover was switched after just a few weeks - very odd. It went from a striking male abdominal in bold print to a bland generic Harlequin cover!
I never posted my review. Then last night unfortunately I bought this book, Cage NOT realizing it was book 2 in same series.
The five male ex-marines are back. Years after leaving the Marines they are still wearing DOG TAGS. My youngest son was in the Marines and he most certainly is not walking around wearing a dog tag.
This story does not have a damsel in distress like Axel did. No, she has been replaced with butchy (masculine), bitchy and slutty/rough around the edges heroine. The dog tag wearing 30 year old hero, Greg walks around saying "Baby girl". Just feels dis-ingenuous and creepy.
Poor language, poor dialogue, riddled with F-bombs. And subpar editing.
This book is being returned. Save your money!
#1 Sadly the author went from one extreme to another with her heroines. In book 1 we had a damsel and in book 2 over the top bitchy, confrontational and in many instances masculine heroine.
#2 After a night of high passion and steam they instantly fell in love.
#3 It would have been better that the author didn't release a 220-page novella and INSTEAD WROTE ANOTHER 80 PAGES, DEVELOPING THEIR LOVE STORY.
#4 Everything felt rushed, story, love and EDITING. This book could have benefited from more time spent on all of above.
#5 It's not necessary to use F-bombs to the extent the author did. If for the shock value, it is lost by chapter two and feels more like a lack of knowledge in English.
#6 $2.99 is high for only 220 pages. The price of a novella should be lower.
So I've already purchased "Cage" and far be it from me to not read something I spent money on. Yeah, it was only $.99, but nonetheless I owned it and maybe now that he was the main character and Lizzy's story more or less wrapped up I might be able to tolerate him better. Lizzy is still in this book as a side character so yippee that we only get to hear baby girl a few times. In comes a new nickname with the love interest heroine of Beauty. So now I get to read him call her Beauty throughout the entire story. Did I say argh already?
I always finish a book no matter how I might not be completely engaged in the story. There has been only one other time aside from this book that I got so annoyed because of everything you're about to read in my review that I didn't want to finish it. It took a lot to push through and read it to the end. End result, I'm disappointed that I wasted my time because it did not get better. Also, the editing in both "Axel" and "Cage" was not done well so add that to my frustration in reading the book. I can accept a few, but come on authors....don't you hire people for that! If you can't afford it, ever hear of friends and family?
He falls madly in love with her the second he laid eyes on her, they spend the entire weekend in bed together and had sex approximately 142 times. Hot, sure, but what didn't do it for me is I could not for the life of me connect with this dude's character. He's described as a bohemith of a man. So instead of enjoying the hot sex scenes, I kept thinking "why would you want to have someone who's 50 pounds bigger than the rock, can't speak full, intelligent sentences, but has the jekkyl side of him that is worse than a girl when talking to himself about how she's his soul mate. In a VERY short period of time, he can't live without her, she's his family and the heroine's nephew (whose mother was murdered by her ex) starts calling him daddy. The now "son" gets abducted at the hands of his deranged ex-lay and taken across country. He calls on some psycho friend from the past to help him "take care" of the situation. What would have made that part better would be is if "taking care" of the situation was his buddy going in navy seal style and rescuing the kid. Nope - you got some sick jack@$$ that enjoys "painting the room red" with people and all kinds of weird torture devices. Did the people deserve to breath - maybe at least one of them didn't for killing his heroines bother, but to do so in an entirely sadistic manner (letting females bleed out to die, staking some guys knees to a chair - you get the hint) and leaving all to die in a sick manner...um, why was that necessary? It's supposed to be a romance novel for pete's sake, not a book of horror.
Fool me once, I will not be fooled again. There will not be another Corps security book near my kindle, ipad, iphone or computer ever again!
