He fell for an American, who he believed only spoke English. He spoke English and Acadian French. He asked to court her, but her father wouldn't consider an Acadian suitor. He forbid anything French. Yet, as a child, she spoke Creole French. Her mother had been French and she had left them and their American home 12 years earlier. Accepting another culture,
kidnapping and greed, and recognizing love is the best language are some of the themes in the book. Enjoy!

This is the first book I have read by Cherie Claire and I look forward to reading more of her work. I found the book excellent in relating the mood of the south and relationships between races during the time period. Once again love is the force that changes the minds of both sides and leads to a happy ending. I liked the setting and would have enjoyed more description of the land and it's struggles. I did not find the wedding night details necessary for the story line. These details could have been omitted and nothing would have been lost.

Delightful would be my choice for this book. Loved it. The plot was skilful and it was filled with interesting details that gave it a depth missing in many other historical romance books. It was historically accurate right down to the smallest detail. And the cultural accuracy was impeccable. By the time you finish this book, you feel Amanda, Rene and their families are personal friends. They are real people, not cardboard characters.

There were several small love stories pleasantly tangled in the main romance. I enjoyed the flow of the writing, it moved in and out of each character's point of view in a way is never seen before but made so much sense. The romance between Amanda and René was sweet and enjoyable, only one really intimate scene that was tastefully executed. Nealy all of the characters were very well rounded, I wish René's quick temper and sensitivity to his culture had been better explained, it didn't seem to fit his character very well but it was a minor distraction I would certainly red more of this author's work.

A very sweet read and good information about the Acadian French people's lives in Louisiana in the early years after being displaced from their Homes in Canada. This a love story of two people, Amanda who is a blonde half French young lady and Renee a full French Acadian, who find themselves attracted to each other. Amanda's father is vehemently opposed to anything French and would never consider that his daughter might disobey him and be friends with someone of French descent.

The author does a great job of weaving this story of love and long held prejudices coming together in the Louisiana of the nineteenth century. A must read for all those who love a wonderful tale of love overcoming all odds.
