Bottom line: This does the job for a decent price. I record all my instruments individually using the UA-1G and lay it all down with Cakewalk for great results on a budget.
I then started reading more about latency, and using an external audio interface as a solution to the problem. I had also read that some audio interface devices wouldn't work well with "Band In A Box", such as the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (M-Audio is a great company-don't get me wrong). Well, I took a leap and bought the Cakewalk UA-1G Audio Interface. I amy very pleased with this device! It works seamlessly with BIAB-just select the Cakewalk UA-IG as your audio default device on your computer, and as your I/O audio driver in BIAB, and your good to go!!! I don't know how other external audio drivers work with PG Music's BIAB, but the Cakewalk UA-1G is fantastic, as it has eliminated latency, or at least reduced it to a level that I can't notice! For around $80, this thing is great!!!
The UA-IG is designed for recording one instrument at a time, so it you intend to record several instruments simultaneously, you'll need a more advanced audio interface. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the UA-IG again. The only thing I might do over, is get higher wattage powered monitors for my "music workstation" such as the M-Audio BX5A, however the M-Audio AV40's which I purchased are adequate. Cheers!
The first time my DAW crashed while I was using this, I restarted it and the program (Reaper) told me that there was a problem with my selected audio interface. Opening up the audio preferences, I saw that all the inputs and outputs were missing. Used to this sort of thing, I figured a driver reinstall would solve the problem. I uninstalled, restarted, and started the installation process again. Everything went smoothly until you get to the part of the driver installation process where you plug in the device and the installer auto-detects it. This did not happen -- it just sat there forever (I left it overnight in my frustration). I went through many cycles of unplugs, uninstalls, different ports, and system restores before I could get the device to work again. I belive part of the problem was that after the first install, Windows "helpfully" tried to auto-install the drivers and this interfered with the driver installation program's ability to detect the device. I had another streak of use out of the thing, until my DAW crashed again. I've been trying for most of the night to get it working again, but I'm having no luck. This is too much. Since this device isn't available anymore I'm guessing it's just got an old driver that Windows 7 doesn't like. A pity, but not worth the frustration. I'll find another interface.
Simple set up. Works great if all you need is a simple USB interface with only a few in's and out's. A cool feature are the RCA inputs. You can dig out old records, cassettes or whatever and
BANG ! All you're old stuff is on the hard drive now ! For the money, it's a nice piece of gear. I'm sure I could have spent a lot more but for what I do, which is original demo's for our band it's just about perfect.
got it in aug. 2011 runs awsome, no glitches, easy to use, good price too, would defenetly recomend it to everybody.
