The story itself was so cute and I wished I could have read this during Christmas break when the story is set. The characters themselves are sweet and I loved the added tension of one of them being sick in a place with no one he knew there to help. His ex boyfriend didn't feel like a boyfriend from the get go - so his leaving didn't evoke as much sympathy for me.
Also, the ending and the "problem" that the two had to deal with felt a bit contrived. I could see the plausibility of it actually occurring, but after spending almost 2 weeks tirelessly taking care of this guy, you can not react the way that he did. And really this was where most of the rating went down for me - that and it just went by to quickly at the end. The pacing sped up too much.
Overall, it is still worth the read but don't expect some in depth emotional rollercoaster.
Seb is a warm, likable character and the heart of the 🎄holiday atmospherics of the story. There were moments when I really did not like Glenn's behavior, but the two as a couple work and Seb's generosity and patience is eventually rewarded.
Though I gave it five stars, the story could have been even better if we knew a bit more about the background of Glenn's and Seb's lives.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author; this is my voluntary and honest review
The story starts with Glen, an elementary school teacher, being left at a hotel during Christmas due to unexpectedly coming down with the measles. His boyfriend looks at the spots and tells him he doesn’t do sick people. Next thing you know Sebastian, who is a man of all trades working his aunts hotel, is looking over Glen with a doctor. Glen and Seb had flirted with each other earlier. After Glen is diagnosed with the measles he stays in the hotel and Seb becomes his one man healthcare person.
I didn’t feel the real connection for the two main characters until the last two chapters. And it wasn’t until then that I started getting into this story. It was alright. I wasn’t crazy about the Main character Glen, but then he was sick through most of the story.
Glenn, a schoolteacher, has gone to a resort with his boyfriend for a Christmas holiday, not knowing that he has contracted measles from one of his students. As soon as symptoms show up, his boyfriend leaves him high and dry. Fortunately, there is Bastian who works at the resort, and does everything possible to make Glenn's stay at the hotel (quarantined in his room) as comfortable as possible. They develop an attraction, but can Glenn open his heart to a new relationship after his bad experience with his previous boyfriend?
