I ordered the 5lb. Calcium Carbonate and recieved it within days. For my first project, I used 1 part calcium carbonate to 3 parts Behr flat latex paint with primer. I was using a red color, and two coats covered beautifully. No pre-sanding, no priming. I just put the first coat of clear wax over the entire painted piece (small chest) and will follow with a dark wax in a few days. It looks lovely. I have used the name brand chalk paint in the past, but cannot justify the cost on small Craigslist and Goodwill pieces of wood furniture. Now, If I was in the rehab furniture business, I wouldn't consider trying to go cheap; the paint I make myself using the Calcium Carbonate will be on pieces of furniture for my own use. 5 lbs.of Calcium Carbonate will last me a long time and I will be able to paint many pieces of furniture. I am already becoming a Craigslist addict and will soon run out of room for all my painted treasures!

I have never left a review but I had to for this product.
I am remodeling my house on a small budget. I discovered chalk paint.
The paint is 40 dollars a quart and comes in certain colors.
With this calcium carbonate I mixed my own chalk paint to match my walls
with the left over flat paint or whatever paint I found in my shed.
Instead of buying furniture, I was able to re-purpose some ugly stuff and it looks beautiful.
After painting you hand wax with furniture wax for a smooth finish. This saved
money and made my home look great! I just gave away my secret. :) Now I am looking
for junk from yard sales and thrift stores to chalk paint because I would rather spend money on
ceiling fans, new counter tops, flooring and fixtures.

This was purchased for use in a chalk paint recipe. I had done a few furniture pieces using this mixed with latex paint and was happy with the results. Recently I decided to take on some kitchen cabinets and the results were less than stellar. Afterwards I noticed many white granules all over the cabinet doors & any flat surface. The paint color was black so you can imagine what this looked like - yikes. Not the product's fault but just note that you need to mix this VERY well with your paint and make sure there aren't any lumps or large granules in the mix. This is less noticeable in a piece of furniture. Perhaps using a mixer or putting the limestone in a Ziploc bag & rolling it to get the lumps out would be helpful. Learn from my mistake :) Overall, this is a great product to make affordable chalk paint with. There are several recipes you can find online. Now go find a tired piece of furniture that could use a makeover!

Hands down this is the very best product to add to flat paint to make chalk paint the consistency of Annie Sloan paints. The finish is amazing!

I received this product a lot faster than I expected. It arrived just 3 days after my order, and the packaging was very secure. The product itself is top notch quality, and the value is great for the amount that I have received. I recommend this, especially for those in looking to make their own chalk based paints!

I bought this in order to make my own pastels and it works great. The 5 lb bag is the perfect size. I haven't needed to refill my supply in 2 years and it hasn't degraded one bit. I wish they offered talc as well. Even though this calcium carbonate is food safe I would still use a mask when handling it. Inhaling so much dust is nasty if not unhealthy.

I used this product to create chalkpaint. The resulting chalkpaint came out "rougher" that when using other slightly more expensive brands. I will be going back to using another brand.
