Probably the best Metal Detecting Headphones you cam get at such an insane price!!!

I bought this for the sole purpose of NOT listening to music, but because the are basically the same thing as Metal Detecting Headphones, but at 1/5 the price! The have one job, and that is to make a beeping sound, and they do that job exceptionally. The other main reason i bought them is because like professional metal detecting headphones, they have a volume control for each ear! They also have a Stereo/Mono Switch as well.

Unlike professional metal detecting headphones, they came with a 3.5mm jack as opposed to a 1/4 inch jack, but they solved this by INCLUDING the 1/4 inch jack adapter! I could not be more happier with these headphones, and they easily handle the wear and tear I put on them by using them so much, and by taking them to the beach so much. So don't let the other ratings fool you. If you are looking for a nice simple pair of Metal Detecting Headphones, then these are for you!

Item arrived promptly. Came with no documentation. While the sound was fine, they are very uncomfortable to wear, as they fit quite tightly, and the padding around the ears does not keep the ears from pressing against the hard plastic speaker. After 30 minutes, my ears hurt too much to continue wearing them. The build quality is poor; where the wire slides connect to the headband is rather janky, the padding around the ear cups isn't held on well, and the headphones feel like they want to twist themselves up in a knot, even while wearing them. The stickers are even coming off after only one day! One the plus, the cord seemed to be an adequate length, and it was nice to have the 1/4'' adapter included. Overall though, if you are looking for a pair of cheap metal detecting headphones, I would not buy these.

Can't do better for the price

These are like the headphones you used in your high school library with old A/V equipment. Then again, I'm a bit older than some of you youngsters so that might taint my vision of them. However, they are good quality, light, and you can wear them for 30 minutes without getting cauliflower ears. Longer than 30 minutes and they do begin to feel a little annoying where you'd like to take them off for a while.

The cord is quite long and does have a coiled section to let you extend it even further. Without the coil stretched I'd say 4 feet, stretch the coil then probably 7 or 8 feet. There is a switch on the left ear to switch from stereo to mono and there is a volume adjustment dial on each earpiece as well.

The leather/foam ear coverings are quite comfortable, but the inner piece is just the raw/hard plastic - would have been better with a foam/cloth covering.

Bottom line - good quality, great price.

At the same time I purchased these, I also purchased the cheap/similar Hamilton Electronics SchoolMate Deluxe Stere/Mono Headphone with 1/8 inches Plug and 1/4 inches Adapter, Volume. The Califone set is much better in all respects except the Hamilton does have foam inside the earpieces covering the plastic inner piece.

Works great. We use them to listen to our extra Sirrus radio (so we can each listen to our own thing) while we are traveling. My husband had been using my Bose headphones but I took them away when the ear cushions started to wear. This is the perfect solution. I would recommend them. Not sure how well kids who like to listen to music would like them but great less-expensive alternative for them, especially young kids.

Great for hard of hearing

Like a few others who got these, I have trouble hearing--my right ear is partially deaf. These help solve the problem because I can turn the sound up for that ear. And if just listening to a reading on the computer or TV, the mono can be turned on if desired. The sound is quite good--much better than another pair of adjustable-sound phones I had, although not exactly up to the fairly expensive Auto-Technica pair I have now. If a person has an in-the-ear hearing aid, most of the phones can be worn without any trouble, but if you don't have an aid or want to save on batteries, these are quite sufficient. It always strikes me as odd that the makers of headphones don't offer more phones with individual adjustments, especially considering how expensive some of them are. As some of the others found, they can be hard to fit if you have a large head, but I don't have any trouble since I extended them all the way. I may purchase another pair later, especially considering how hard it is to find adjustable headphones like these.

While I like the sound the the volume control features, the headphones become incredibly uncomfortable over time. I had to straighten the earphone wires to get them to fit; then after listening to an audio book for over an hour my ears began to hurt. I then discovered the ear cups aren't deep enough for me, only 20mm uncompressed. But the real fault of the headphones is there isn't any padding on the inside where the ear fits; just very hard plastic. I can't return the headphones because I modified the wires so will eat the cost.

For the cost of this headset, it's quite awesome! It goes beyond my expectations.
Sound quality is not great, but better than I thought.
The materials seems quite robust (note: I cannot say for sure how roust will be over time).
If I have to make a critic, I'd say it's too hard (squeezes your head too much) if you don't adjust it correctly.

I have purchased it because of the Stereo/Mono selector. I needed a mono headset for an amplifier for an elderly. It's very hard to find a large headset for this use, and this seems to be the right (perhaps the only?) choice.
