Top customer reviews
The first unit I received had a large amount of really small steel beads in the tank, I didn't realize this at first and it ended up ruining the regulator and coupling on the compressor, as well as the coupling on my hose and a blow gun. They are packed full of steel beads and seized up, thankfully I didn't hook this up to a nail gun right away... So I try to contact California Air Tools to let them know what happened and see if they would prefer handling the return themselves or if I should go back through Amazon. After not getting anyone in three phone call attempts I submitted a form on the website, and it has now been a week without a response.
I ended up doing an exchange through Amazon as I really needed the compressor to use, the second one shows up today and just like the first has tiny steel beads in the tank. I ended up opening the drain and rocking the compressor back and forth to get them out... I'm hoping it got most all of them out as I really like the compressor and am don't feel like dealing with another return. There weren't nearly as many beads in this second one, the attached picture is roughly how many I got out of the first unit. You can easily hear the beads rolling around in the tank, so if you purchase this just rock it back and forth a few times with your ear near the tank before hooking up any good air tools.
As for the fit and finish, decals are just randomly slapped on with most of them no where near being straight, the second unit was rattling like crazy because the "on/off" switch was touching the loose plastic cover rather then bent away from it like my first one was. The second unit also had the whole pressure gauge/regulator assembly at a ~10 degree angle off of parallel from the tanks, where the first one it was straight on. Both had sticky pipe sealant on them in several places. Also beware of the filter/muffler cap as the plastic flashing is quite sharp. I'm not sure if its a QA issue or if the company simply doesn't care, but either reason isn't a very good one...
All in all, the thing is so quiet I will put up with the other issues, I just really wish there was a better version of it.

The small nailers including finish nailer work fine with better than expected recovery time. Only when I pushed it did I have to wait for it to catch up with the finish nailer.
Different story with the framing nailer. 16ga nails? It works, but it is not designed for that purpose and I expected a longer recovery time (several seconds) Fine with me, it's a home compressor designed for the regular guy who only uses it occassionally
OK, now I am not one to trust all of the hype from manufacturers who try to sell you their product so I did my own test with regard to noise level and the time it takes for the unit to fill to Max from empty.
It took 51 seconds to fill the tank. That's pretty good in my opinion.
For the noise test, I set it next to my old no name pancake compressor and ran the old one until it was at max 1 min 34 seconds and that damn thing could "Wake the Dead".
I turned on the CAT1060 and although it is a bit louder than an Iwata airbrush compressor, it is a huge difference from the racket from my pancake. I could carry on a normal conversation with my wife while we were standing right next to it. Good deal since I intend to use it in a room next to our bedroom and I'm an early riser. I actually bought this to use with my airbrush, knowing I could use it for other projects as well.
I called C.A.T. and asked if I could use this with my surge protector and they said NO! But get this, the warning on the label might say no extension cord but they told me you can providing it is 14 ga and no longer than 25 feet. He pointed out that the info is in the pamphlet on page 10. How'd I miss that? Anyhow, I think it's a great home compressor that won't wake up your Ancestors and will fill most of our needs. If you need bigger, then buy bigger. Hope this helps those who are on the fence about getting one.
Update. Two things I found that you may want to consider.
#1 The air pressure does not adjust easily so if you need an exact pressure, it may be a challenge.
#2 The on/off switch is not user friendly and not a positive click when turning off. It is in an awkward location and may be a difficult if you have large hands and fingers. I'll put an extension on mine and for air pressure for an airbrush, I'll simply install a MAC valve to cure any adjustment woes.
I just tried it.it fills up less than 45 second and I used my framing gun.it takes like 5 nails before starts running again and I already love this thing.
It light and very very quite.
Glad I bought it
