When I was born in Sunnyvale, California, it was a land of fruit, and we lived lives essentially centered around agriculture. Much as I admire the vibrant Sunnyvale of today, "the heart of the Silicon Valley," I didn't want the Sunnyvale of my youth and the life we lived there to be forgotten. I have long wanted to write about what it was like to grow up in that time and place when life, although not always easier, was certainly simpler and more focused on friends and family. Given that I'm 86, it occurred to me if I were ever going to do it, now is the time. I hope readers enjoy my abbreviated trip down memory lane as much as I enjoyed writing it.

About the Author
Elsie McCain White was born in 1929 in Sunnyvale, California. She was the third child of the second marriage of her father, who as a young man had begun the decades-long wagon journey that carried his first family from Alabama across the country. After a frugal but happy girlhood, Elsie married John White, a soldier stationed in Sunnyvale, while still a teenager. The couple moved with a growing family that ultimately numbered six children from California to Missouri to Arizona to Arkansas. Today, Elsie is the proud grandmother of thirteen and great-grandmother of twenty-six. She has survived her husband of over sixty years, three sisters, three half-sisters, and a half-brother. Her hobbies are reading and writing poetry, needlework, and volunteer activities.
