I just got the headphones in the mail and immediately started inspecting them. I was a bit worried after seeing some of the latest reviews compared to the older ones, about how it seems some people are getting plastic versions with very little metal. I am not sure if these people are getting knowckoffs from another company, but the ones I received have no plastic on them whatsoever. The earpieces are metal, the semi-circle piece that mounts to the ear cups is metal, the adjustment is metal, the headband structure is metal, and then the headband structure is wrapped in leather that is stitched very nicely. The ear pads seem to be foam wrapped in leather as well. no plastic here.
They sound really nice for $50 headphones (obviously the going out of business price). Id compare them to headphones in the $150 range of sound, and the build quality and materials are easily worth the extra $50 on top of that price. So the original $200 that these used to go for is pretty accurate and worthwhile. It is sad to see a startup company with a great product close down due to lack of interest.
I would characterize the sound as heavy low mid's and heavy high's, with a bit of a scoop in the high mid's range and the usual rolloff of closed headphones under $400 in the lows. Somewhat similar to beyerdynamic's sound style. Not very "Sennheisery" at all. So if you are a fan of Senn's then you probably wont like how these sound. I am thinking I will buy a 2nd pair of these while supplies are still available and look into some mods I could do to hopefully bring out some more low end warmth and volume. I dont want to ruin my first pair because the build quality is just so nice.
The cable itself looks very good and fits with the design quite well. My one complaint is that there is no marking for left and right on the cable, so you dont know which to plug in where. Just have to plug in and run a speaker test in Windows and then swap the connectors if you guessed wrong. The cable is also quite thin after the split, and is probably why people complain of it breaking after a little while.
