Her second YA series-Twenty Nine-had slowly developed over time. One Leap Year, an idea came to her and she created the characters and story based on that special day, February 29.

In the exciting sequel to `Waiting for Dusk', Kate finds out a great deal more about her family and how they move between past and present. Despite the knowledge of how dangerous tinkering with the past can be, Kate's father goes back to try to right a family tragedy. Worse still, her friend Carl also goes back and threatens to change the course of history.
Will this interference mean that Kate will never be born? And, if so, what will happen to her 21st century self?
I'm not, as a rule, over-enamoured with sequels. Very often they lack the immediacy and power of the original. But Nancy Pennick pulls it off with this story. I thought it was just as enjoyable as `Waiting for Dusk'. The interplay between the 20th century and the 21st century characters is fascinating as each has to adjust to the other's very different culture. We even have the dichotomy of one of the characters being alive in both centuries at the same time - a young girl in the 1920s and a very old lady in the early 21st century.
Ms Pennick's writing style is uncluttered and very readable. I would recommend this series for anyone who enjoys something a little more interesting than run-of-the-mill romance.
As always, the characterizations of the main characters Kate and Drew come through very well, and both characters are likable, believable for the most part, and enjoyable to watch. I liked the secondary characters as well, though there are far more in this book in the previous, both in modern day, AND in the year 1927, where anyone going back in time always ends up.
I did not like Tyson's character--as in the first book--and don't understand why it takes everyone who sees his stalking of Kate so long to act to protect her. He is a really good main villain, handsome on the outside and ruthlessly selfish and violent in his actions.
The plot was wonderful, the romantic scenes worthy of many elicited sighs, and the suspense thrilling enough so I read this book straight through in only a few days, because I had to know what was going to happen. The descriptions of the Roaring 20's were just right, enough to get me imagining that time perfectly without being bogged down by too much depiction.
I eagerly await the next book in this series!
Overall opinion:
If you enjoy YA, try this series! It's got it all.
Parents:
Language: a few swear word
Adult Content: no sex depicted, only referenced
Violence: some YA stalking and resulting mild violence.
This Grand Canyon continues to be the backdrop of the story and is an intriguing aspect of the story.
Even if you didn't read Waiting for Dusk, you can enjoy this book although I highly recommend that you read both!!
Can't wait for the third and final book!!
