Daphne was a young woman who was raised by her Grandmother and Great Aunt after her parents died. There were secrets in her life as well as strange dreams that she could not find answers about. She took a temporary job as personal assistant/glorified babysitter to a wealthy young woman, at the request of the woman's mother; more secrets.
The mysterious Robert De Marco, author, came suddenly into her life while she was in Italy working with her boss. Daphne first saw Robert when she climbed to the top of Notre Dam's bell tower. When she first saw this man, he was standing on a ledge and she thought he was contemplating suicide. He said he wanted a better view. At the time, she had not recognized him as the successful horror author. Once he introduced himself, sje told him she didn't watch or read horror. He was not taken back by her comment, smiling at her in a way that attracted her to him like a magnet although she could not figure out why. They had dinner together and things moved quite rapidly after that.
After two days, Robert asked her to marry him but was it love at first sight or something else a bit darker that led Robert to search for Daphne, even when he wasn't quite sure who she was until he talked to her.
The book takes many twists and turns, which made me keep reading ahead to see what happened next. I recommend reading this love/thriller story.
I loved how the story was conveyed. Daphne is totally unaware of who she really is. She has dreams, but thinks they are exactly just that.
Robert shows up and fascinates her like nothing before. Daphne is quiet and timid. Robert is determined but also closed off.
After a weekend together he asks her to marry him. Even though she doesn't know him she agrees. He also uses words around her she can't place but reckons that because he writes horror novels this is the norm for him.
When he takes her home with him suddenly there are secrets upon secrets and Daphne is thrown in the deep end. She doesn't flounder though..she comes out with flying colours.
This is the story of Daphne coming into her own and discovering who she is and where she fits in. Robert is beside her all the way.
I voluntarily read this ARC and am giving my honest and unbiased opinion of the book as I experienced it.
Victoria Pinder delivers an intriguing, suspenseful and steamy story that will have you on edge
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
I have read several stories by this author and the only disappointment I have had was when the books ended. I an always thrill and entertained with this author's books and look forward to more in the future.
I highly recommend this book. It seems like a wonderful start to a new series (but this is a full length, standalone novel, without a cliffhanger).
