Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

I wont bother reviewing the game itself as there are plenty of reivews up for it. Needless to say, it is phenomenal. The $20 credit on Amazon is awesome, and the main reason I buy games from Amazon.

For an additional $20 over the regular addition of the game, the Hardened Edition contains:

The game packaged in a Steelbook case with a very short, black and white manual
An art book
A card/token for a free download of the original Call of Duty

+The original Call of Duty was previously only available on PC. I havent seen a price for it yet, but I'm guessing it will sell for $15 on XBLA and PSN. There is a lengthy single player campaign, as well as 24 player multi-player. The value of the Hardened Edition completly depends on if you're interested in playing Call of Duty 1. I beat the game for PC years ago, and it's great. It will remind you of the old Medal of Honor games, and after playing it on my XBOX 360, it seems the graphics, sound effects, and the story have held up relatively well. I think most Call of Duty fans will enjoy the original and will be glad they played it.

+The art book is about 38 pages, and it's interesting. It actually has commentary from the developers at Infinity Ward, not just pictures. I am really enjoying Modern Warfare 2, so for me it was worth checking out the art book and getting some additional insight into the game. For example, it looks like Infinity Ward originally planned a motorcycle chase through the streets of Washington DC (or possibly Brazil), but it didnt make the final game.

+I love the steelbook. It is the coolest steelbook I have seen, possibly only rivaled by the Gears of War 2 steelbook in the limited edition.

This was my first COD game and I really like it (Hardened edition). Bought it when it first came out. All the parts (spec ops, campaign, multiplayer) are great. However, on multiplayer there are some ANNOYING problems. About 40-50% of the time it will respawn a guy from the other team right behind you and you die though absolutely no fault of your own or skill on his part. About 2% of that 40-50% it will respawn a guy from the other team directly in front of you & looking right at you. You die again. Other stupid things it does is respawn you directly under AC130/Harrier/Air Strike fire. Often several times in a row. Or respawn you in front of a claymore or just tossed grenade. STUPID!!!! It will also repeatedly respawn YOU in front of the guy who just killed you so he can kill you some more. STUPID!!! Respawns should be neutral & safe so no one is at an advantage/disadvantage.

The matchmaking is not good. How many times in 2 minutes do I have to leave a lobby and still get stuck right back in it??!! 20?? 30?? Seriously, not only will it keep sticking you in the same map you just rejected, but it will keep sticking you in the same game. FRIGGIN' FRUSTRATING!!!! All of which could be avoided with smarter matchmaking or the ability to reject maps you never want to play (Karachi, Sub base) and setting preferences that stay in effect.

This is still my favorite game and I play it far, far more than Black Ops or MW3 (take everything wrong with MW2 & make it more prevelant & worse).

This has been the busiest gaming year in recent memory. With games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Halo:ODST, Fallout 3 GOTY, Borderlands it would've been a great year for many a gamer. I've picked up all of the aforementioned games and I've gotta say MW2 is the best out of all of them.

I haven't been able to beat the story yet, but the first few missions are absolutly amazing. Each one was better than the last. The graphics were also revamped, and this is definitly the best looking Call of Duty game ever.

Multiplayer - Lot's of new additions, including more exp for more objectives. For example you get extra exp for killing the person who last killed you(Payback), you'll also get extra exp for stopping someone from getting a killstreak (Buzzkill), and so on and so forth. The multiplayer no longer has the perks Juggernaut and Martydom, as these were the 2 most commonly hated perks in the game. Martydom is still in the game, however as a death streak. A death streak is also something new in the game, where if you die a certain amount of times in a row without obtaining a kill, you'll temporarily gain a perk until you get a kill. Martydom requires you to die 4 times in a row, and once you finally kill someone, you'll lose it...until you die 4 times in a row again. Juggernaut has been seemingly replaced with a deathstreak of it's own called painpills. Once you die 3 times in a row, you'll spawn with extra health for the first 10 seconds after you spawn. As weak as it sounds, it's saved my life and my opponents life countless times already.

In terms of gameplay online, the multiplayer is the same as before. Kill, get objectives, etc.

every time i put this game disc into any xbox 360 it shows an error code that says "THE DISC IS UNREADABLE" I've tryed cleaning it with micro fiber cloths so that i do not put any more scratches on it then it already came with. I honestly love this game, It is my all time favorite. Then only thing i regret is not having enough money to buy a brand new copy of the game. I do not know if this product was sent to me from a private seller or not, So there is probably nothing you can do to help me out.

Thank you for your interest,
