Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features

Great game, NVG's make a cool display. NVG's work in an indoor setting, but say good by to your depth perception. Will work better outdoors with a large IR flashlight.

I will just say that if you are a huge fan of Modern Warfare 2 than the prestige edition is the way to go. It delivers nice fully functional goggles that not only can be used but can be displayed on a statue of a head. The inclusion of a download for Call of Duty is a nice touch. If your not a big fan of the Modern Warfare than I wouldn't recommend it. I think with some it will have a personal touch.
As for the game, the campaign is short. I was able to beat it on veteran in under 6 hours BUT it was a great experience. Its an experience everyone should have. The cinematic gameplay moments are directed so well. The game replicates everything that Modern Warfare done so well. The story is decent and great acting. The graphics are a sight to behold that shines through the campaign and multiplayer.
I can't say enough about the multiplayer and how they spruced it up. Customizable kill streaks that unlock with experience can range from Harriers, Bombers, multiple different helos, and so on. The game is set up in a way where it gives you more customization not just from you weapons but through your perks. Everything is revamped in a better way.
What about the customizable avatars? They are there and done exactly like that of Street Fighter IV. It even lets you add icons and every match will show a slow mo of the last kill in a match. Its a lot of these little things added that just fleshed out an already well done multiplayer into something even more stellar.
Now on top of that, there is special ops that let you jump into objectives that can range from just killing a slew of enemies, race down a mountain, or disarm bombs. It is pretty challenging and addicting. Some of the objectives can be done solo or with another player. it is an exciting addition that rounds out a great game. I highly recommend this game. It might be short on the campaign side but the multiplayer adds so much from the standard modes of headquarters, team deathmatch, search and destroy and up to new modes that are placed in third person.
Short Campaign with a cool cinematic story and gameplay, fun addicting long multiplayer, and great single and two player special ops mode. A must buy for fans of the series, FPS games, and those who love good multiplayer gameplay.

My husband is a Fitst Person Shooter fanatic. He loves all of the Call of Duty games, Halo, Gears of War, etc. I knew he wanted the Prestige addition. But I told him we just didn't have the money. Then unbeknownst to him I found it on Amazon at a decent price and got it for him for Christmas. I ended up giving it to him early though, I'm not cruel lol. He loved everything about it.

The campaign game play is great by itself but the story falls apart toward the end. Still it is way better than average and does a good job of engaging the player throughout. Spec-Ops is another issue. I was really looking forward to this 2 player mode. I was hoping this would include a zombie mode or separate missions from the campaign but that is not the case. I hope DLC will add some variety and "out of the box" levels like the airplane hijacker scene at end of CoD 4. The multiplayer is awesome and an overall improvement (if possible) from previous CoD titles. But the inability to have party chat during certain match types is inexcusable, and one is left asking themselves, why? If I get party invites while playing I get booted from match and counts as a loss. I hope IW will patch this soon. I like the maps that shipped with the game except 1 or 2. Overall this is a great package well worth your time. I personally will be playing this almost exclusively till Gears of War 3.

I love this game! This is much better than the TreArc version of Call of Duty. The levels are good with some easy parts and some parts that will have you pulling your hair out just trying to make it to the next checkpoint.
Multi-player is also good with plenty of levels to start along with a few DLC packs that can be purchased from XBOX Live.
This is the version of the series of Call of Duty that I always wind up keeping and find it very re-playable.
My only suggestion would be not to use the Night Vision Googles while playing the game and definitely not around stairs in your house, because your perception is definitely affected when you have these bad boys on.

Nice deluxe package with metal game case and night vision googles. I bought the Prestige Xbox version because of the extras included. I think it was a great value. The night vision googles were worth the price paid and I still have the game to play.
The game looks very good and the 1 player story line was very good and made me not want to put the game down. Online multiplayer is where this game really come to life. I have been playing online for over 6 years and this game feels like a step in a new direction. The game moves very good, smooth, and very clean looking. Overall a very good experience.
Amazon was great. I got the game the day it came out delivered to my house for free shipping.

I played the first COD:MW, but this one is simply amazing. The gameplay is superb, the missions are intense, and the storyline is actually dramatic. I was amazed on how much I fell into the game, I mean that I was submersed into the game. The mission were incredibly, at some moments my jaw literally hit the flow of awesomeness. I bought the Prestige edition, which included some goodies, most notably the night vision goggles. These indeed do work, they are fully functional. Great purchase on my part. The game is truly amazing.

This is a brilliant game! If your a first person shooter fan and you have not bought this game already, then I would have to say that your missing out. The Night Vision goggles are always fun to have and play around with. (example turning off the power to the whole dorm at night and shooting your roommates with a airsoft gun while they are figuring out what is going on). Anyway. there are no negative things to report.

So Cool !

This definitely is a 5 star review. The game might be older and I have finished it a few times already but to finally be able to own the night vision goggles is such a unique pleasure. They work so well and are an awesome addition to my shelves of collectibles. If you don't have a pair and have a few extra bucks that you can spend on these, they are worth it all the way.

I just wanted the NVG's!

I saw these NVG's in the shop at the time but was told they were no good, I believed them. I always regretted listening to that piece of advice.
So I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. They do work tho my pet wasn't fooled he saw me! They look good on the stand. As for the game -well that's a bonus. Prices differ wildly. I got mine for £80.
