I have played most of the Call of Duty series, with the original Modern Warefare and MW2 being my favorites. I enjoyed the Black Ops series mostly for its zombies, while the Advanced/Infinite games were pretty much skips for me as they were too over the top.
This version feels great right out of the gate. As stated, I am playing on the original Xbox One, and it looks stunning. The graphics are incredible for a CoD game. I have not had any major performance issues either... a few stutters here and there but nothing game-breaking. One thing that was immediately evident is all of the work that has been done on the audio front. Guns and Explosions will absolutely rattle your brain bucket if you have surround sound or nice headphones. The sound is much improved over other CoD games and is really incredible to hear.
Gameplay:
This is pretty much unchanged from other Call of Duty games. The control scheme is the same, although there are some improvements like being able to mount your weapon on walls and ledges for better cover/accuracy. The action is smooth and controls are as responsive as ever. Run aim shoot cover repeat.
Campaign:
The story is set mostly in a fictional version of the middle east, and some in real Europe. There is a significant reflection of real current events playing out... but anyways basically you play as several characters as they take on different roles in this version of a War on Terror. The campaign is really solid and thoroughly enjoyable. It's fun seeing Captain Price back in the game. Bigtime action, well-paced, and gorgeously rendered cutscenes. There are several pretty disturbing scenes that play out involving civilians but for the most part this is a game where you shoot lots of bad guys and try to save the good guys. Most people probably skip the CoD campaigns of late but I would highly recommend giving this one a playthrough as it can be finished in only a few sessions. There are some really memorable missions here that I won't spoil but one specific one sticks out in my mind for the use of Night Vision and IR lasers... it's pretty awesome.
Multiplayer:
At the end of the day, if you played any of the previous CoD: MW series entries, you know what to expect, but it's fair to say everything has been improved for 2019. Still the same frantic action, but with new maps, weapons and customization. If you enjoy running and gunning you'll have a good time (and you will die a lot, kids are REALLY good at CoD these days). I will update this review as I dig more into the multiplayer. There have been some growing pains for the online as of launch weekend but expect performance hiccups to be ironed out over the coming weeks and certainly up to 100% by holiday time.
MULTIPLAYER UPDATE: After a week or so with the game, I am having a good time with multiplayer. The 2v2 gunfight mode is possibly my favorite. You can also play many of the modes online splitscreen with a guest which is awesome. I would like to point out that "crossplay" is enabled by default, meaning you play against PS4 and PC players. Some argue that PC players have an advantage over console, and this is definitely noticeable. I had to turn off crossplay for matches to even feel balanced, with it on, you simply get destroyed by PC players because a click of a mouse to aim is so much quicker than joystick and trigger. So with crossplay turned off, I am having a great time online.
Verdict:
If you played any previous entries of the CoD series, especially any of the Modern Warfares, and enjoyed them, I would recommend this game as it really improves upon those. However, if CoD hasn't been your cup of tea in the past, I would skip this. The changes they've made are significant but it is Call of Duty through and through.
-Campaign is a very enjoyable experience (Price is freaking awesome), although some character and story elements could be fleshed out a bit more. The most egregious con I have for it is the rewriting of history with the Highway of Death and putting blame on Russia when U.S. forces were the ones to gun down civilian vehicles in the incident. I digress, the campaign brings in some memorable and pretty shocking moments (nothing like MW2’s ‘No Russia’ but still).
-Multiplayer is pretty great! Camping Meta is a little annoying at times but TTK and your ability to check corners makes it a bit more bearable to deal with.
-Spec Ops. Eh.
-Warzone is the best BR out there if anything, make a sick loadout just to use for this mode since it is such a fresh and familiar experience all wrapped in one!
Side Note for Amazon: If I purchase a product to be delivered to my home on a certain date, I should not be told that it shipped on that date. I get there is a pandemic going on at the time of writing this, but for God’s sake just take away the option if you’re stalled. I’d rather you guys were honest instead of making me pay more to have it shipped quicker when in reality I have to wait a whole week rather than just a few days. Fix this. It is annoying.
I have been mostly playing the online gaming but so far I find it that the graphics and gaming are what I hoped for. I just like simple battle without too much bells and whistles that get confusing when playing. What I like about the online game is that even though I'm older, I can still be pretty competitive in the game when playing against the young gamers. I've played the campaign for a little while and find that it is good, although the violence etc is too much. You can turn the violence and language down in the settings, which is good. I just don't see a need for over the top violence when we already live in an increasingly violent world.
For anyone who enjoyed the older series with more simple playing and controls, give this version of Modern Warfare a try. It is a game I can see myself playing for a while and enjoying it as well. Might be worth waiting for price drop or finding the game used, but otherwise it is a worth while investment.

As mentioned above, I am not a hard core gamer, but this game did not disappoint.
