Pointstreaks and Strike Packages

Killstreaks, benefits and abilities awarded for stringing together multiple kills, have been transformed into Pointstreaks, creating a system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives. These rewards have been broken up into three different categories, known as Strike Packages:

  • Assault - Pointstreaks within this package chain together and deal direct damage. It includes classics like the Predator Missile and Attack Helicopter. Your streak resets on death.
  • Support - Pointstreaks within this package do not chain, focusing instead on surveillance and disruption. Your streak does not reset on death meaning they will respawn with you.
  • Specialist - Pointstreaks within this package are designed for advanced players. Rewards come in the form of additional perks for optimal performance. These perks last until death.
Weapon Proficiencies

Just like your player, weapons now rank up, unlocking additional attachments, reticules, camos and the new proficiency category. Weapon Proficiencies not only allow you to get better with weapons, they also allow you customize your weapons with helpful attributes such as "Kick" for reduced recoil, "Impact" for deeper penetration through hard surfaces and much more. Many proficiencies are specific to their weapons class. And all are geared towards enhancing a certain play style and can allow for efficient use of your favorite weapons in maps and game modes in which they might not otherwise be the best choice.

Modes and Match Customization

Along with the return of the fan favorites Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 introduces several new game modes. Collect dog tags from killed players, including those on your squad while you prevent the opposing squad from taking yours in Kill Confirmed mode. In Team Defender mode, grab the flag and protect the flag carrier for as long as you can to increase your team's score. In addition players will enjoy user generated match mode functionality which allows you to configure any mode how you want it and then share these over the Call of Duty: Elite online service.

2-player Co-op Special Ops Survival Mode

Special Ops cooperative action returns with a bevy of additions, including 16 new objective-based missions and the all-new Survival Mode. Team up online, locally, or play solo and face endless waves of attacking enemies throughout every multiplayer map. Purchase and customize your weapons, air support, equipment and abilities to stand up against increasingly difficult forces and land a spot on the leaderboards. Earn experience and rank up with the newly implemented progression system. The higher the rank, the more weapons, air support, and gear armories you will have available to customize so you can change your tactics on the fly. In addition to the action packed battle for freedom, the cooperative Survival Mode also serves as an effective training tool for competitive multiplayer action.

Call of Duty: Elite

Call of Duty: Elite is an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The service offers both free and subscription based levels of access and is dedicated to the game franchise, featuring lifetime statistics across multiple games, social-networking options, competitions, a mobile app, Facebook integration and more.

so i got my pre-ordered hardened edition in the mail on release day (thanks amazon!), and needless to say i was very excited. the hardened edition is massive! i mean it comes in a massive case. i popped it open and say the goodies inside.
the journal is definitely some awesome geeky COD memorabilia.(in the journal there's pictures, notes, sketches, a match book(not real), one of the labels from a captian price cigar....truly nerdy...i dig it) one thing that was a let down was that COD elite had crashed on release day (must have learned from BFBC2 and offense to them it just sucks all three had some issues). but its up and running today. COD elite is ok. i don't if its worth the money, but we'll see. the avatar costume is really cool.(nothing like good ol'jugs ruinin' your day..) the steel case is alright. i'm not really too big of a fan of the hardened editions. i pretty much got the MW2 for the free (kinda) COD classic, Black Ops for the Zombies maps, and MW3 for all of the dlc prepaid. usually i just sell the hardened after a while and buy a regular copy. overall nice packaging and good quality. but now for some details folks!

Graphics - 9.5 - still very beautiful. there could have been little things done to make it better, but this looks slightly better graphically than MW2...which was a gorgeous game in its time.

Sound - 7.5 - the sound is nothing special. i guess if you had a turtle beach head set you could appreciate it more, but its lack luster.

Playability - 9.5 - i seriously think the controls are tighter than they in any other COD. the game plays the same (as usual), but feels right on the money.

Campaign - 9.0 - i really enjoyed the story. classic. deep. (for the most part) layered. intense.

There is not much to say about this game. The multiplayer is fast paced, addicting, and always fun. There's modes to fit every player (campers and even those who hate campers, i.e. Kill Confirm). The weapons are pretty much the same as MW2, but they seem to have been nerfed a slight bit in comparison. However, this review is for the hardened edition so let me get to what I feel is important.

Everyone who was trying to get this on release day was worried about activating the elite membership by the 13th to ensure you get founder status. LET ME ANSWER THIS!!! IF you activate by the 13th EVERYONE gets founder status, even people who buy elite with their credit card online and purchase the regular edition. So why the hardened edition? It allows you to get the founder status with a code after the 13th has already passed by. So if you were worried about getting this and not receiving it by the 13th, stop worrying. You will still get founder status.

That being said, yes this game is worth $99, no it's not worth the 150-200 price tag that gougers are giving it. If you can't get it for 99, just order the regular edition, then go online to the elite website and sign up by the 13th. You won't get your "green skull" founder badge until later on, it takes about 48 hours to get this to show up.

That being said, for those who were wanting founder status, but wanted to hold off activating their elite service till the first DLC releases so it lasts longer, you will need the elite founder card to activate founder status later. However, if you're just worried about getting founder status NOW, then either way you go about purchasing Elite, you will have no problems.

Great game & storyline. However, on multiplayer you will get killed instantly & repeatedly because it will either respawn you in front of enemy or respawn enemy behind you in what had been a clear area. I prestiged once and haven't played multiplayer in at least a couple of years. Survival mode is good, chaos mode is frustratingly pointless. Nothing of value drops when you need it or where you need it. Still no team snipers, no DLC maps with darkness, fog, heavy brush/concealment, etc. Still no ability to pick favorite maps & reject hated maps as a set preference. Attachments & perk system a pain compared to MW2. No way to deploy 2 claymores or betties even with scavenger pro, WTF??!! If you want a better multiplayer stick with MW2 which isn't perfect but better than this. Juggernauts impossible to kill compared to MW2 yet in campaign mode you die in seconds wearing one. Yeah, that's fair.

I really don't get what the problem is when a game follows a proven formula for a game. Let's see, MW1 had an somewhat compelling storyline, big "Michael Bay" type action scenes like the Marines in the Middle East. Plus add in what is still like the #3 played Xbox Live Multiplayer experience and you have a winner. Then you have MW2, which pushed the plot back a little bit, but definitely went with bigger action and added pretty awesome Specs Ops and built on an already winning formula. Now you have MW3. The plot has come back to be more cohesive than MW2, which I appreciate since I actually play the campaign first. Spec Ops looks to be bigger and badder than ever. And the multiplayer will, if the changes work, cut down on the "douchebaggery" and make it once again fun and not just annoying to play.

This game is not BF3. So what? It is different enough to allow different gameplay and appeal to people who want something other than CoD has to offer.
