Format: Paperback
The stakes are high in Jamie Rae’s debut NA novel CALL SIGN KARMA and the amount of talent is even higher!

In the writing world I’m always talking about the stakes for the characters or what I like to refer to as the ‘sizzle’. The spark that makes the reader fall in love with the character and root for them the entire way. Well, CALL SIGN KARMA delivers this and much more because there is SO much at stake for the main characters. Not only is the heroine, Tink’s, heart at risk from unknowingly falling for her new superior officer, but their occupation—USAF Fighter Pilots—puts their jobs in jeopardy, not to mention their lives as they serve their country! Each of these elements is masterfully woven together and creates so much tension and drive that I couldn’t put it down!!!

Tink is an amazing female lead and so refreshing in the NA genre! You know she’s a badass when she’s the first female chosen to fly the wicked F-35 jet, but the fact that it is the same jet that killed her brother shows she has tremendous heart—even though she tries to hide it. She is strong, confident, and holds her own in a profession dominated by men. She is a woman who doesn’t let others tell her what to do or make her decisions for her. And she sure as hell doesn’t take no for an answer! But there is more depth to her than her tough exterior shows. She has the capacity to love on all cylinders, whether that be for her lost brother or the newfound, swoon worthy male lead, Locke. Her tenderness when she thinks of her brother and her passion for Locke prove her heart still works, though it is scarred and terrified of ever being wounded again. The push pull of her steel like exterior and her caring, tender, inner self makes for a great combination of a female lead with tons of complexity.

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Life is for soaring at supersonic speed in a jet that you control as the pilot. In Call Sign Karma, author Jamie Rae explores the life, love and drama of being a fighter pilot. This unique story gives insight into not only male pilots in the military but also the plight of females trying to break into that rarified group. Our main characters are part of this exclusive group of men and women as they learn to serve their country.

With a name like Tinklee Pinkerton you should be use to jokes, but when you have been accepted into a program for elite fighter pilots it can be hard to bear. When Tink lost her BFF, her older brother, she made a vow to investigate and prove that it was not pilot error but something wrong with the jet he was flying. She is accepted into a program that will allow her to fly the same jet her brother was killed in, the jet she witnessed him dying in! A new kink is added when her instructor turns out to be the man of her dreams, and her one night stand.

Locke is British Royalty and is also an Ace Instructor with the Royal Air Force. He is on loan to the US Military to help train an elite group of fighter pilots. He meets a woman while walking on the beach and the chemistry between the two of them blows his mind. They end up spending the night together only to find out the next day that she is one of the pilots he is to help train. With the strict code of conduct for officers, how will Locke and Tink continue their relationship? Things transpire to separate the two would be lovers and their chance for a HEA!

This book popped up on my facebook the other day, and I was immediately intrigued with the female character, Tinklee, just from the blurb. I bought it and decided, what the heck, I have a weekend free for once, so I started reading it last night, and didn't put it down until 3am. It was amazing!

The book covers love and loss, and how to regain your life after losing someone close to you, and how to deal with the fear of possibly losing more people that you care about. I work as a therapist at a psych hospital, and used to work for a Veterans Affairs Medical Center for psychiatric needs. This book clearly displays the relationships formed in the military, as well as the importance of those relationships, and shows the trauma that our troops have to deal with on a daily basis.

Now with the specifics. The plot was great and kept me turning pages. The characters were well developed, and I hope to see more books with other characters, especially Bodhi, and even Ash. I am emotionally invested in Ash, who is my favorite secondary character from any book that I've read in the past year. He was amazing and deserves his own story!

My only drawback was the editing for grammatical errors and spelling errors. Lots of misused "then"s for "than", and often especially during the last 25%, some words were missing from sentences. But other than that, the story was amazing. I loved the emotions that I felt, and I love how invested I became in this story, but I don't love that there aren't any others out yet! I didn't realize this book was just released last month. Hoping for more!
