Callaway X-24 HOT Iron Set 4-AW with Steel Shafts The Callaway X-24 HOT Iron Set 4-AW with Steel Shafts is new for 2010 from the makers of the No.1 irons in golf for the last 13 years. The X-24 HOT Iron Set is the longest, most accurate X Series iron ever. The main piece of technology at work is Callaways VFT, or Variable Face Thickness technology which uses precision milling to achieve a hot clubface thats thinner in the middle than at the edges. What you get is a springy, robust clubface with an enlarged sweet spot that delivers faster ball speeds more consistently across the face, so youll experience improved distance, even on off-center hits. Around back, youll see Callaways notch weighting at work. Discretionary weight is relocated to the perimeter of the club which promotes accuracy and allows Callaway to place the center of gravity in an optimal position to generate strong trajectories. Also evident in the X-24s is Callaways S2H2 hosel, which removes weight from the hosel to be repositioned in the clubhead for added performance, a 360 Undercut Channel, which further optimizes the center of gravity for added stability and Modified Tru-Bore allows the shaft tip to extend through the hosel and clubhead to the sole for improved feel and control. The whole package is completed with a non-glare Stealth PVD Finish that keeps your eyes trained on the target and not on the clubhead. Additional Features: Grip: Callaway Full Cord Material: Steel Set composition: 4- Approach Wedge Shaft type: Callaway Uniflex Steel
Designed and built to enhance performance and increase ball speed, the X-24 Hot Irons from Callaway Golf offer a hot club face with a large sweet spot to generate faster balls speeds--even on off center hits. The irons utilize Callaway's Precision Notch Weighting to move more weight to the perimeter of the club head. This enables an optimal center of gravity (CG) position for stronger trajectories while promoting pinpoint accuracy and control. The X-24 Irons are further refined with 360 Degree Undercut Channel technology and Modified TruBore technology. TruBore technology introduces a shorter, straighter, hollow hosel design that allows more weight to move into the perimeter of the club head while the 360-Degree Undercut Channel further maximizes perimeter weighting for CG that is even lower and farther back in the club head. These paired technologies enlarge the hitting area and stabilize the club head for more forgiveness that provides an improved performance and enhanced feel for a wide range of golfers. Finished with a stealth PVD finish, the X-24 Hot Irons offer a distinctive dark look that minimizes glare on the course.
360-Degree Undercut Channel maximizes perimeter weighting by moving the center of gravity (CG) lower and farther back in the club head.

The Pros: The first thing I noticed about these clubs is the loft. Having owned several Callaway sets, there is a noticeable decrease in loft, giving you longer and flatter shots. For example, I have added almost 10 yards on my 4-6 irons. The face on these is quite forgiving, and I hit straighter with these irons than any other set I have played. The sole of the club is rather wide, and the contour glides easily on fairway shots. The clubs have a lot of weighting at the toe and heel, and this also helps keep your shot straight. One of the interesting features is the dark coloring of the clubs. This is presumably to reduce glare, but I never felt that to be a problem in the past. I appreciate this feature for strictly cosmetic reasons. Contrary to other reviews I read, this is a sturdy finish, and I have not experienced problems of fading or other damage. Finally, the shaft is quite nice on this set. I am a strong person, and I generate a lot of club speed. I have had problems with excessive flex in clubs since I began playing. These shafts seem to be a bit stiffer than standard shafts, though not as stiff as a stiff shaft. Regardless, I have had no problem with these shafts.
The Cons: My complaints of this set are few, but worth noting. The wedges seem to give me problems. The low center of gravity is helpful, but it seems difficult to make solid contact. Also, the club face does not seem to grip the ball as much, and generating spin around the green is not always easy. These may not be problems with the clubs, and may instead by attributable to my swing, but they are things I noticed in playing.
In summation, this is a great set, and I would gladly purchase it again. If you are looking for a great set, and you play enough, these are a good investment.
