Rising Storm is a series of short stories about a small town called Storm in Texas, loaded with scandal, romance, and secrets. Calm Before the Storm is another great installment in this series of books. Marcus and Brittany's story is full of promise, even though they are from different sides of the tracks, him the not so great side and comes from an abusive father that he ran from and turned his life around, hers from the life of privilege with lots of money and politics, none of which belong together. I really liked this book. The chemistry between Marcus and Brittany gave something of a promised courtship and future, but of course her family has other plans. Great development of the characters in such a short book, kept my interest all the way through. Great read.

I was given this ARC book in return for an honest review.

I am loving this series. In Calm Before the Storm by Larissa Ione, after year of Marcus Alvarez leaving town he has come back to Storm Texas after his dad had left. So Marcus is taken aback by all that has changed in his home town, like Brittany Rush. Brittany was not the little teenager he had left. But now could Marcus get passed all the challenges he will have to face to be with her.
I really did not expect to like this story so much. As I started to read the first book in this series Tempest Rising, I now feel like I can't stop. I have to know what is going on in this little town.

The last book's cliffhanger ending was Marcus Alvarez returning to town after several years away and this book picked up right where that one left off.

We learn a lot about Marcus in this book, specifically what happened in the past that caused him to leave town. Unsurprisingly, it had to do with his father beating his mother and beating him, too. The more I hear about Hector, the more I am glad that Dillon ran him out of town. Yet, knowing this is a soap opera, I have an inkling that he'll be back before the end of this season.

We also have a number of secrets that keep getting revealed to different people, and I look forward to them coming out and changing everyone's lives forever. Specifically, Dillon actually told Marcus that he forced Hector out of town. I didn't think he'd spill that secret so soon. Granted, it was only to a couple people, but still.

We also learned even more about how selfish Sebastian and Marylee are. They are so full of themselves that I really hope they get taken down a few hundred notches. And ideally, it would happen at the Founder's Day celebration. (My years of watching soaps has informed this idea. Nearly every time there is a big town gathering, ALL of the secrets get spilled.)

My only complaint about this book and the rest in the series is that it isn't longer. I want to know more about all these people, which is just what I want from any soap-like thing I read or watch. I can't wait to discover more.

Things heat up as Brittany and Marcus, who has returned to Storm after a long absence in Montana, reconnect. Brittany's family is not happy about her new relationship with a half-Hispanic, bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the meddling begins. More lies. More deception. And that isn't all. Senator Rush is entangled with Marcus's sister and that's not boding well for either of them. This is the calm before the storm that is raging around all the lies and secrets of the people who are Storm.

Once again I'm totally drawn to the town known as Storm Texas. The intrigue and the emotional angst in this small town is off the charts. So many secrets that can change the way certain lives and families will be affected but Larissa Ione has you on the edge of your seat with this installment of Rising Storm this is seriously like a soap opera in print with so many authors contributing to each part all different styles of writing but all creating one incredible series that you do not want to miss

It is now time for my favorite show... errr... book. Rising Storm. We are already up to Episode #5, The Calm Before The Storm by Larissa Ione.

The title this week seems to hint at what is to come. That right now we are headed into a nice little calm with things happening right as they should before everything is going to blow up in our faces. UH OH! (Is it horrible that I can't wait to watch it unfold?) But for now... let's see what unfolded this week in Storm! This week we focus on the return of Marcus Alvarez. He had skipped town years ago after his dad's drinking became too much for him to deal with. But his leaving town left his mom and sisters alone with the drunken Hector Alvarez. Now that Hector has gone MIA, Marcus has returned to make sure that the rest of his family is OK. He never expected that he would be stepping foot back in Storm. But as soon as he does he sees Brittany Rush. Brittany has long harbored a crush on the oh so sexy and now mysterious Marcus. Will the beautiful Brittany be enough to lure Marcus back to Storm for good?

This edition was definitely much calmer. I loved getting to know the elusive Marcus. We had only really heard his name before, but now we really got to see into his character. How he interacted with his family, with his friends, and how he is falling hard and fast for Brittany. We also get to see his lingering misgivings and uneasiness about being back in Storm. His mixed feelings with his mother - though he loves her - that stretch back to why he took off in the first place. This paints a much deeper version of him than we have gotten to seen of many other characters and I really appreciated it. But you get the sense that the calm is not here to stay!
