About the Author
Laurie Goulding was born in London, grew up in Burton-upon-Trent, and then experienced a slight regression in Winchester before finally settling in Nottingham. As the original director of Black Library TV he would regularly make the authors uncomfortable by sticking a camera in their faces – now he achieves the same effect by wielding a red pen as a member of the editorial team.

The most interesting story to me was about the athame by John French; I actually loved that perspective, wish it could have been more fleshed out and in depth. Disliked the perpetual continuity right after. I just don't like the thought of perpetuals. Bowden's tale (not in order) was okay, cool character, but you know what happens to any cool character that pops up.
Overall, I'm not a fan of the Calth atrocity, every event and connection is so far apart it's hard to get a clear picture of what and why its happening. This will most likely continue affecting the Horus Heresy because its in a direct series and time line wise, in and out of order. As a stand alone, I would have given it 1-2 stars, being it was so unclear, gave it 3 because it ties into the Heresy, although I don't know at what importance.
The stories are of mixed quality. I have to admit, I'm now in the anti-Perpetual camp.
To black library...knock it the hell off. You are ruining this series. After this book, you can bet I won't be buying anymore physical copies. God bless torrents and ereaders. At least after the next crappy book in the Heresy, I wont be upset that I gave you any money.
If you've followed the Horus Heresy series, you need to add this volume to your collection.
If you haven't started the series, or just want to get a glimpse of the Warhammer 40K universe, this is a good place to start.
The book covers a few different angles during the battle(s) on Calth. Enjoyed the reading and would recommend.
