The CD-ROM does not work with Linux.
The number of entries is not mentioned. The 140 000 figure quoted
for "words, phrases, meanings, and examples" is not relevant.
If a word is not mentioned at all, it does not matter how many meanings
and variants another word has.
My quick estimate is that it has about 60 000 entries, which is relatively
small, but I wish CUP would come up with a figure of their own, entries,
not words, so that we can make meaningful comparison with other products.
It does make up in other areas, though. For example, there is systematic
usage advice and I like the list of common mistakes too.
The phonetic symbols are repeated on every page, as a footnote
(they look like the IPA or close), that's useful.
I'd rather go without the visual dictionary plate section in the
middle, in the middle of the 'L' chapter, or have it at the back,
but I guess that could be useful for some learners (though an advanced
learner may not find many words/pictures there).
The hard back book opens well and has traditional signatures (sections),
i.e. good quality binding, not a cheap glued one.

It's a great dictionary. This version doesn't have an Idiom finder, but now has a good "English Vocabulary Profile" and "Focus on Writing Section".Published 23 months ago by Jorge Castro
