Award-Winning Azur 851A Champions Power, Versatility, Ultra-Low Distortion, Super-Fine Detail, Audiophile Components: Class XD Technology the Best of Both Class A & B Operation Power, finesse, flexibility, astonishingly low distortion: Cambridge Audio's Azur 851A exemplifies what you audiophiles want (and need) in an integrated amplifier . Bolstered by proprietary Class XD technology to produce even greater musical detail, and capable of delivering 120 watts of high-quality power into 8 ohms (200W into 4 ohms), it benefits from two oversize audiophile-grade toroidal transformers—one for the sensitive preamp section and one for the power stages. This incredible speaker-taming amount of power can be precision-controlled with an innovative, fully balanced silicon gate volume control controllable in 1dB steps, which yields very fine adjustment across the volume range and highly accurate channel balance. The ability to set any input to fixed gain even turns Azur 851A into a power amplifier in a multichannel system. As is so often the case with products from Cambridge Audio, what you're getting is cutting-edge technology for substantially less than high-end prices." – Hi-Fi News , Outstanding Product review Because everyone's needs are different, Azur 851A offers two main types of connectivity: the more commonly found RCA/Phono inputs, plus two pairs of fully balanced XLR connections. Speaking of versatility, you can even control your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using the 851 Series remote control when they're docked in Cambridge Audio's matching iD100 digital dock. Oh well. I guess it's back to NAD, Rogue, or Parasound. Or even a nice Yamaha A-S1100.
Hope this helps!
My unit also has the same problem of the volume control knob not being able to adjust, but the volume can be adjusted with the remote control. Fortunately my pre-amp device has volume control so the volume can be 'set and leave it on the amp', except for those instances where the volume goes to max. When that happens I just turn the amp off and let it cool down for awhile.
1) this thing is not 120w/ch. Feels more like 80w/ch at best.
2) tone control knobs are made of plastic, and the way how it works is a joke, feels like it will break on you soon.
3) gets really hot
4) sounds ok. Better than an cheap/mid level amp, but I would not call the sound great. It did not make me smile when I was listening music on it.
Don't let the marketing get to you, they talk a lot about dual mono, class xd, the best integrated amp we made, etc.
Returned this for a different integrated amp.
Any questions about my experience, please ask, be happy to answer.
I actually would have rated this amp a 5* device, but then it started to shut down with no recognisable reason.
SUCH A PITY, after two years the money is gone and the device to throw away!
