Camco's 4500W 240V screw-in ripple type Ultra low watt density water heater elements are better suited for areas with problem water (hard water, lime, etc. The Ultra LWD of this element helps prevent lime deposits d the high performance nickel-chromium stainless steel alloy sheath gives it additional strength to resist dry firing. The combined effect make the element better suited for use in areas with problem or intermittent water supply. Screw-in type elements are universal replacement parts that fit most models of American, AO Smith, Bradford White, Craftmaster (prior to 1991), GE, GS Wood (certain models), Kenmore, Lochinvar, Maytag, Mor-Flo, Reliance, Rheem, Richmond, Rudd, Sears, State, Whirlpool and most water heaters manufactured after 1994. The replacement element must be the same voltage and wattage as the element being replaced. Never exceed the nameplate rating on the water heater.

A very very disappointed customer. Just an update, I had three more of these fail within 90 days of install. worst product ever. I won't ask for free replacement because i would never install one of these again
Here's some advice. Bear in mind I am not a professional plumber or building inspector. Consult with both of them and the dogcatcher too before following my advice or better yet just read this for educational and entertainment purposes. This part of the country has a lot of limestone and calcium in well water. Deposits on plumbing and residue in water heater confirm. I've only tested for hardness, not composition. Different water compositions will give different results. There was a lot of sediment in the heater above the level of the element which is probably what killed it after 6 years of dutiful service. .My maintenance plan going forward is to install a big ball valve in place of the drain valve so that I can periodically drain out the sediment through a temporary hose. A ball valve allows a straight shot to shove a stick in to dislodge sediment. Best to switch off power to the heater and send somebody in for a long shower to cool the water. If they come out of the shower blue and shivering it's cool enough to work on. Use the incoming valve to throttle down the flow and then fully open the ball valve to clear out sediment. The stick might come in handy here. It's going to be messy because it happens near ground level. With luck the temporary tube will flow sediment straight into the bucket. I am contemplating this on an annual basis because when the element finally gave out the heat warped it and made removal quite difficult. I'd like to avoid that in the future and the maintenance should extend product life.
in my bad water. the water heater is american EE123-50h 045dm. the only difficulty is the access hole to lower element.you can't get your fingers
near the element base to hold it straight.. I ended up using a automotive 38 mm deep socket and a screw driver through the 1/2 square hole
to balance the element to start it.It took a lot of time but it is worth it.
This is my second set . The original set lasted me approx. 1 1/2 years but my water heater control package constantly is switching the elements on and off for energy savings. the lower element opened internally so I replaced both.
The original elements would be hissing in 3 weeks so this is the best fix I have found to date.
P.S. the 02963 version started hissing early so I do not recommend their use in hard water.
A normal, genetic element will “sing” from the minerals in the water attaching to the element (this is normal), and is not a problem if your heater is out of earshot. If the noise annoys you (as it does me), this is the element you want. While it does not eliminate the “singing”, it does greatly reduce it. Mine is in a vacation home and lasted 4 years until I stupidly turned on the heater power before I turned on the water and filled the tank (doh!). Time for another set.

I've brewed a few batches with my new system and it works very well, lots of power!
Used for BOTTOM element in 40 gallon tank. works great. Now loads of hot water.
