How it Works

The Camco Heavy-Duty 50 Amp RV/Electric Car Extension Cord with PowerGrip Handles allows you to add sufficient length (15 additional feet) needed to reach distant power outlets. Using the hassle-free PowerGrip handle, simply attach your power cord to the extension cord's 50-amp female connector and plug the standard 50-amp male end to the power outlet. When finished, unplug both connecting ends and use the adjustable cord organizer to bound the cord. The attached carrying strap handle makes the extension cord easy to carry.

I needed the way to lose my Tesla charger closer to the garage door so I can charge outside. Well instead of having an electrician come and spending hundreds of dollars to put in the new outlet or move my existing Outlet this extension cord was the perfect solution. I charge my Tesla through this at 40 amps it doesn't get warm or hot to the touch even after hours of charging so the wire is good quality. Also it's nice to have 4 trips with an electric vehicle 220 mobile charger 220 plugs aren't always outside and easily accessible. If you have an electric vehicle and don't think you'll ever need something like this take my advice it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Even though Tesla says not to put any extension cords between you and the car this can probably be the exception. The feel and overall thickness of the cable seems to be extremely high-quality with zero compromise.

I am using the 15 foot Nema 1450 extension and it’s working great with my mobile connector. There is zero heat buildup even under full load. The connector head on both ends is extremely high-quality and does not get warm.

Charging starts and continues at full speed without any dips or loss of power. Overall this seems to be a great purchase any viable solution for electric car charging. Will be ordering a second cable to further extend my reach and for traveling.

Extra heavy duty

This Camco extension cord gives me the same gauge wires that I have in my internal house wiring for a NEMA 14-50 outlet, but the sheath for this cord is several times thicker. The connectors at both ends are solid and easy to work with. It's as if I'm extending the wiring for my outlet by 15 feet, and I don't expect any significant loss because of it. My outlet is less than a foot from the circuit breaker to begin with, so that won't be a problem. Unless your home wiring run is so long that an extra 15 feet would push it over the edge, chances are this will work fine. And if the run is that long, chances are that it has gauge 4 wiring and adding 15 feet of gauge 6 won't hurt. It's up to you to assure that your wiring is adequate to work with an extra 15 feet of cord.

I use this so I could have an outlet in a more convenient part of the garage without needing to undertake a major wiring project. I don't plan to move it around a lot, but it's durable enough that it shouldn't be a problem to do that for typical use, and it comes with a convenient carrying strap just for that purpose. If you have an electric vehicle that needs charging, this will be well suited. But if the manufacturer tells you not to use extension cords, it's not up to me to contradict them even if there's no technical reason not to use a cord of this quality. I use it to charge a vehicle with a 40 amp draw, so I feel more than comfortable using it.

The cable is really heavy and solid as others have said. The connectors are firmly attached. The grip handle makes it easy to plug and unplug from the 14-50 socket. Overall, seems to be excellent quality.

I picked up the 15ft version as the location of my 14-50 outlet is in the center of my garage. On my old Nissan Leaf, this was a perfect location. However, with the charge port at the rear driver side on the Tesla Model 3 and pulling in head first, there just isn't enough cord with the provided mobile connector to reach the Model 3's port. Using this extension cord allows me to move the mobile connector enough to make the cable reach, and is far cheaper than getting an electrician out to move the outlet or hard-wire a new EVSE.

Poor quality connection

I ordered this 15' extension cord to extend the reach of my Tesla mobile charger. When connecting the charger directly, it makes a solid connection to the NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage, and no amount of movement interrupts the power flow. However the extension cord, using the same outlet, requires a great deal of wiggling and re-seating the connection before it carries power. Then the moment it shifts even slightly in the socket, the power is cut and charging is interrupted.

Given other 14-50 appliances have no issue in the same socket, I have to fault the cord. The cord also arrived looking scuffed and weathered, so I have to suspect it was a used/returned item being sold on as new again.

This extension cord works just fine. The only small complaint is that the black insulation around the wire is actually loose. It is not a thick rubber coating like your factory camper cord probably is. This one you can feel space between the insulation and the wires inside. My concern is for longevity and durability as this would almost certainly be less durable than the solid rubber coated cords mentioned. But, for the price, this might be a good trade, especially since 7 out of 10 trips we don't need an extension cord to reach the electric panel. Good value vs. price considering.

Overheated and melted at 40A

Mine overheated and melted. I’ve been using it for about a year with no problems, not sure why all of a sudden this happens. I charge my Tesla at 40A every night on a 50A circuit. Maybe I need to step it down to 32A. My Tesla 14-50 adapter is also ruined so need to buy a new one now.

Even though the picture and description of the 15' cord doesn't show the carrying handle (the 30' cord does show), the smaller length does have a carrying handle. Haven't tried it yet on the motorhome, but it looks sturdy and well made. We currently have a 30' foot 50 amp cord, but every once in a while we need a few extra feet to hook up at an RV park, and the 15' is just the right length and doesn't weigh too much.
