My RV cord was in need of repair so I purchased this as I've always liked Camco products. The instructions were well laid out, BUT pay attention as one part of the drawing shows the layout if you are looking at the plug from the prong side and not the back where you connect the wires to the terminals. Other than that the directions were accurate on where and how long to cut your wires and how to lay then into the plug housing. The plug housing is plastic and does have a cheap feel to which is bothersome (I like things with that heavy duty industrial quality feel) but it seems adequate. There is a piece that you can use and flip over to accommodate your wire OD size. That part worked out fairly well and was easy to determine. I do wish it had been made with some degree of waterproofing as sometimes trailer plugs can be dropped when winding them up or getting them out of the trailer but that's just my safety side concern so be careful on that account. As they say, There's always room for improvement.

It's great once you figure out how to raise the terminals

I have 100' of 10/3 Type SOW cord and figured I could make a 100' extension cord for my RV with this Camco 55245 on one end and a 55343 on the other end. The female, 55343, went on in a snap. I knew from reading the reviews that this 55245 could prove difficult to wire because of the placement of the screw heads facing the post. I'm taking one star off the review because the instructions simply read "raise terminal to access screw and clamping pole." How??? Mine didn't wiggle, even with pliers. I figured I'd break the plastic trying to "raise the terminal" to get access to the screw. Fortunately I found a YouTube video (and then discovered the video on this page) that points out that you can push on the blades to raise the terminal on the reverse side. Except that mine had no give at all. I had to get a plastic mallet and, with the rear cover removed, hit the blades pretty hard to push the terminals out enough to get access to the screw. Once I got the terminals raised, getting the wires secured was easy and the rest of the job was done in no time at all. I've tested my new extension cord plugged into the house and RV and it works like a charm. Nice replacement.

It's an OK plug for your shore power cord

The materials of construction are a hard plastic that I fear could break easily if dropped or banged up against a hard surface. The contacts are heavy solid brass with screw terminals. I tinned my conductors prior to affixing them to the contacts. The other thing I dislike is that the body of the plug is so long that it hits on the edge of the power pedestal and prevents the plug from seating squarely in the receptacle.

I think if/when this one breaks, I will look for a good one from Hubbell or the like.

this is second Camco electrical item purchased within the past 2 years that was a serious error. One at an RV store and this one at Amazon. The RV store item was a 50 amp male to 30 amp female dogbone adapter, the 30 amp receptacle was actually for a 30 amp 220vac dryer type plug. Checked store supply and all of them were bad!
This item was 'supposed' to be a 30 amp replacement male plug as pictured and advertised. The packaging picture showed a male plug and the packaging text described a 30 amp male. But the item in the package was a 30 amp female receptacle.
Believe that Camco has some electrical wizards working for them and I cannot take a chance with their electrical products anymore.

Best replacement RV power cord head out there

I run an RV park in Oregon and have seen many failed plugs on RV power cords. I always replace them with this unit which is a significant improvement from the factory Heads. I have seen many factory heads that have melted through and damaged my receptacles and so far never had one of this type fail. The key is to pull your plug out by the head and not buy the cord and with the D handle on these that makes it much easier. I highly recommend it to anyone with an RV that had the older non-handled heads. Very easy to install.

Be cognoscente that these are fairly large so if you need to fit it through a hole you should check for fit. Aside from that, they are the best you can get. The plugs line up perfectly with their counterparts, and stay straight without bending. I've used ones bought from Home Depot and elsewhere and there is simply no comparison. I don't think these will ever fail.

Terminal Needs to be Pounded Out!

The video shows the terminals being easy to push through so you can get a screwdriver in to unscrew and attach the wires. NOT so!
I ordered two off these and on BOTH, the round green terminal had to be pounded with a hammer in order to get the terminal out (which Camco service rep suggested) to attach the wire. I would send them back but how do I know I would get the same thing? And also in an area where I need to drive to get RV parts
I am glad I did this before cutting off the old plug on my RV so I could prepare it beforehand. Hopefully it will perform well once I install it

I bought this one to replace the plug on my trailer because of its handle, which I thought was a good idea. However, now that it's installed I can't store the plug back inside the trailer when I'm traveling since the plug is too big to fit into the RV cable hatch tube. Operator error here so no stars deducted but if you're planning to use this to replace the plug on your RV make sure it fits back into the trailer first.
