I agree it's not cool that the description says dishwasher safe but then the bottom of the bottle says it is not. I can handle hand washing my bottles so I am okay with that.
*Update -2 stars.. The cap went from a half twist to a full 360° twist to get it off. Huge fail in my opinion
*2nd Update - Back to 5 stars. You get used to the new lid. I love it.

I’ve had two Camelbak 40 oz. Mag Chutes in the past, both of which I’ve loved, but unfortunately lost. Yes, I realize how hard it is to lose such a large, heavy water bottle, but I digress.
I ordered this one after having lost the previous one and noticed that there was a new olive color available. I gladly purchased it. When it arrived, there was a dent in the bottom of it from shipping, but Amazon offered a partial refund.
Likes:
- The new magnetized top is an improvement in the old design, where you had to carefully wedge the top in the lid if you wanted to hold it open. This one just sticks.
- The “finger loop” (my words) used to carry this thing is now wider, enough for 2 (or 3 if smaller) fingers. The old one allowed for only one finger. When the old design was full, it got pretty heavy and I often worried about it shifting and breaking my finger. No such problems here.
Dislikes:
- The new mouthpiece lid seems harder to close. I used to be able to completely and confidently screw on the lid of the old design with one hand. It was great when driving. This thing takes more effort. I have to double check the seal every time I close it because this seems to want to cross-thread and LOOK as though it is closed when it is not. On two occasions this thing has leaked and completely emptied, once on my car seat, once on the floorboard. 40 ounces of water is A LOT of water to have leak everywhere.
I was debating between the camelbak and the hydro bc of the cap. Sometimes I can be clumsy so I didn’t like having to open the entire cap to drink water and spill it. This camelbak have the “water bottle style” smaller cap is exactly what I was looking for.

I really like these bottles. They keep the liquid cold for very long periods, even after being left in the car during 100 degree days! Great for those long days running errands.
I attached a picture of the spout, and it may be hard to see but it has just a little bit of tilt on it, which makes it more comfortable to drink from than a straight spout on something like a Takeya, which I also own.
The chute that I received has the new magnetic lid on it. I do like that the lid gets held back out of my face automatically when I'm drinking (especially when the fluid level is lower), but it does seem like the cap is harder to remove than the cap on the non-magnetic lid, which I also own. (I use a lot of these insulated water bottles!) I'm hoping that I will get used to it, but I have owned this bottle for just over a month and it hasn't happened yet. It also seems like it takes more turns to remove/replace the cap than the non-magnetic version. And since it's not that big of a deal for me to hold the cap back with a finger while I'm drinking, I actually prefer the old non-magnetic version. Unfortunately, those caps will probably be phased out. Bummer.
The handle is just a little bit rubbery feeling, which makes it easier to hold, but I could use just a little more cushion there. Since my bottle is 32oz and when full, it can be a bit heavy, I think that carrying it for a long period while walking would probably start to hurt. Though I have to admit, I haven't actually tested that yet!
The only actual real issue that I have with the bottle is the width dimension. There were some discrepancies here on Amazon so I went with what was listed on the Camelbak website, but even that is incorrect! Camelbak listed the width as 3.7 inches so I bought that size silicone sleeve for the bottom of the bottle (before receiving the bottle) - and it's way too big! Using a ruler, it looks to be about 3.25 inches. This does make it easier to hold, though!
Even with the incorrect width dimension and the finicky cap, these are still a great buy. I highly recommend these chute bottles.

I was also attracted by its double cap. I like bottles with a wide mouth to facilitate drying and cleaning, but it is more straightforward to drink from a bottle with a small aperture. The double cap offers the best of both worlds.
The double cap on this bottle also sports a sturdy carry handle and a magnetic feature (hence the "Mag" in the name) which keeps the small cap from flopping against your face when you tilt the bottle up to drink. Both caps are screw-on so they are secure against leaks, unlike a flip-top cap.
The bottle looks compact for its volume, at least when set next to my Stanley vacuum flask which has half the capacity. This made me doubt whether the CamelBak has a capacity of one litre as advertised.
To start with, the one-litre figure is incorrect even though it is imprinted on the bottom of the bottle as the metric equivalent of 32 ounces. 32 fluid ounces translates to 0.95 litres. I do not have the means to accurately measure volume, so as an alternative I stood the bottle on an electronic scale, zeroed the displayed weight, and filled the bottle with water. In secondary school I was taught that one litre of water weighs one kilogram, so this is the weight that should have been displayed on the scale with the bottle full.
Filling the bottle up to just below the neck, that is to say about an inch down from the top, gave a reading of 912 grams. Filling the bottle right up to the top increased the weight to 963 g, but this is unrealistic as a measure of capacity because you need some clearance to screw the cap on. This admittedly rough-and-ready test indicates that the bottle's capacity is definitely less than one litre and, in practice, it falls slightly short even of the lesser figure of 0.95 litres.
This is a marginal issue, however. What matters more is whether the bottle succeeds in keeping its contents at a constant temperature. CamelBak says this bottle can keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for six. I have not tested this, but I have used the bottle on walks lasting several hours on sunny days when temperatures in the shade were in the upper 20s Celsius (actual temperatures in the sun would have been considerably higher) and it kept my water cold.
The downside of this bottle is its weight. It comes to 479 g empty, or almost half a kilogram. However, you cannot expect an insulated stainless steel bottle of this size to be lightweight. Interestingly, the measured weight of this bottle is less than its official weight of 493 g as given by CamelBak on its website. Most of my gear weighs more than advertised—this bottle is one of the few exceptions.

The bottles are made out of stainless steel so when full they can feel quite heavy so bear that in mind if weight is an issue. I also like the mag cap that keep the bottle top from flopping about when you take a drink (very clever idea).
I use both of mine for water and boy does it keep it cold. I add a ice cubes in the bottom first thing in the morning and then fill with cold water from the fridge, it sits on my desk at work all day and is still ice cold in the evening.
I absolutely love these bottles and don't know how I've managed without them. Highly recommended and if you buy you will not be disappointed.

The cap on the Camelbak is a great design. You can either remove the whole thing, for filling, cleaning etc. or just twist off the smaller drinking spout cap, which is slightly magnetic so that it won’t flap about while you’re drinking. The thread and seal on both caps is smooth and feels well made. Finally, the bottle feels solid in the hand and the little grab handle that I thought was pointless actually isn’t - I have come to like it.
Will it change your life? Probably not. Will it do a good job? Yes. Is it worth the money? Also yes.
