The new redesign of the Eddy+ bottle bring some welcome changes. First of all, the loop on the bottle is bigger. Now instead of only being able to fit one finger though the loop you can now put 3 fingers through it. Now I feel like I'm less likely to drop the bottle when carrying it around the gym.
The spout also got a small redesign. Instead of the spout being convex, it is now concave. I didn't know how I felt about the change at first, but it's proven to be very useful. I feel like you can get slightly more water out of the spout and there's a handy spot for your tongue to rest (if you like putting your tongue against your water bottle?)
Lastly, the top of the bottle has been slightly redesigned. There's no longer a screw under the spout like on the old bottle. I often found that grime would get caught in this screw from time to time and you'd need to manually scrub it, but it is now gone.
The Eddy bottle is a challenge to clean by hand. CamelBak sells scrubbing kits just to clean their bottles. I've found that if I put the bottles, straws, and lids in the dishwasher after use, the bottles come out sparkling clean. From experience I've found that only washing the bottles by hand without using a scrubbing brush allows grime to buildup in the bottle over time no matter how often you wash the bottle. You have to be EXTRA careful to clean inside the spout, under the lid, and where the straw connects to the lid. I've found that if you ignore these places, black mold spots are guaranteed to grow after a while.
Overall I love these CamelBak bottles and the new redesign is definitely a step in the right direction for me! I'll definitely buy more of these when I inevitably lose my current bottle.
However, several years takes a toll on bottles when you use them so much. My old stash had grown warped, leaky, and moldy from the use and abuse, so I finally invested in two new bottles. I thought these were just like the Eddy bottles I've been buying for the past half decade... I was wrong.
The "new" design is a joke. After washing, I tried using the bottle without a straw first. The sound of the air being pulled into the bottle to balance pressure straight-up sounds like a turkey mating call. And it's LOUD. It was heard across my house. Thank God I wasn't in public, or a wayward hunter might have taken me out to prep for Thanksgiving. The chance of me using this in the gym, work, or class is less than 0.
So I tried putting the straw in. It's silent to drink from this way, thankfully... but an hour later when I came back to the bottle, I found a puddle surrounding it. Not from condensation, oh no. The cold water in the bottle had warmed up, increasing the pressure inside. And as the only way for fluid to leave the bottle is through the mouthpiece-- which is now connected to a straw, which is now sitting in water-- the pressure was balanced by forcing water out of the mouthpiece little by little over time. So now I have a nice puddle on my coffee table. When I tried to lift the valve to drink, I got an extra geyser all over the couch.
And lastly, the valve on this one is terribly shaped. The last design worked perfectly!! It didn't need to be changed! The new design takes some tongue dexterity to operate decently at best-- and I don't want to have to make out with my water bottle to get some hydration, ya know?
I'm honestly really disappointed. These used to be fantastic bottles, and an easy way to keep track of fluid intake. Now, at best, they're good hunting accessories, or a way to teach high-schoolers about thermodynamics. Not remotely acceptable for a simple water bottle though.

The eddy and its lid does make it a little harder to clean but spend the time here and it will last a long time. Cleaning wise, all parts come apart and can be cleaned easily in order to stop any stagnant water smells. There are three parts to the top assembly, the rubber bite valve, top lid and the water tube all which come apart and can be washed in soapy water. I tend to put the bottle part in the dishwasher although that is most likely not recommended, it seems fine so far.
Camekbak as a company offer great support and I had a bite valve that started leaking and as a result they sent me a whole new top assembly which was awesome so 5 stars for that. This bottle was well received by the recipient who felt the same in terms of the review. They are very sturdy, and overall are among the best out there, but do go for a 1l as it will really help with getting enough water!
well worth the cost!
It's impossible to source the bite valves for a price less than the replacement bottle and if you contact the "got your bak" lifetime warranty you will hear nothing. I've waited 2 months for a replacement valve - nothing. No replies to my emails. So i've thrown the bottle away.
Transparent bottle allows to keep easily an eye on remaining drink level. No scratches, no cracks despite unintentional drops or bangs. Highly recommend for health conscious busy professionals!
Planning to use the same cover and straw with stainless steel, single wall Nalgene bottle for bushcraft / adventure / survival purposes. This use not tested yet...
Moving on. At first, they worked fine (I bought two) but my wife took it apart to clean it, like the old style ones, and it turns out to be very hard indeed to get the central tube back in again, though it can be cleaned without removing it. Once that was established, everything went well for a few weeks. Then, suddenly, I've started leaking terribly. On closer inspection it turns out there's a little rubbery valve that actually seems to come out quite easily and can be lost, without which it leaks. See pictures with and without the valve and the valve itself. I haven't been able to find a replacement.
