Top customer reviews
after reading alot through the reviews i realized i wasn't the only one who found this out.
The small inner tube grows mold. I wash my camelback after every use. Recently i looked inside to see if it was clean (and it normally LOOKS clean) but this time there was black stuff i couldn't scrape off so i ripped the tube out.
I FOUND SO MUCH GUNK IN THE TUBE. and i realized this has probably attributed to my constant sick days. I have been getting sick since i started using this water bottle. I would get symptoms like tiredness, weakness, lose my voice, sore throat, i would go to the doctor and they said i have a virus and it will go away in a week or two. BUT IT ALWAYS CAME BACK. and when you're sick you drink water! so i kept drinking it UNTIL TODAY I LOOKED IN THERE AND UGH.
this was my fav water bottle but I'm never drinking out of it or any camelback again.
I attached photos. after i took the tube out i tried to use it but it leaks :(
i have two different bottles btw and both had the same gunk inside
The good: Love the size, color, the way it functions
The not-so-good: This thing sucks on a plane -- literally, the suction causes water to get everywhere. Even when I was traveling on a train through the highlands of Norway, the difference in pressure caused water leakage. Also, the mold that grows in the nipple (ugh). My solution has been to soak it for hours in vinegar - previously, I was taking alcohol prep wipes (like when you get a shot) and trying to clean it out that way.
I recently got a new water bottle, and even though I miss the size and access point of this one, I don't miss the mold and the mess.
Inevitably, the bite valve and the swivel mechanism in the cap starts forming black mold within a few months of usage, and it also begins to yellow over the long term. You can take it apart and clean it out with a q-tip every so often, but it's nowhere near as trivial as just rinsing out a regular bottle.
I kept purchasing replacement bite valves and straws for a couple years but ever since I switched to CamelBak Chute water bottle, there is absolutely no looking back. The Chute model is simpler in design, easier to use, easier to clean, and better in just about every way. The screw-on thread is compatible between the Chute & Eddy, and also between the different sizes (at least between the 0.75L & 1L) so I now have few different size & color bottles to pick from.
I think it's normal wear and tear. I remember when we first got it I had to bite so hard to open the mouthpiece that my jaw would hurt just to take a drink. Now it's much easier and I don't even notice the biting however since it's worked in now, it doesn't stay closed so it spills all over when tossed about or turned upside down, something it never used to do.
There was a sweet spot of time where it was both not difficult to bite open AND it wouldn't spill. That lasted about 2 months.
