Camillus Folding Knives are made from the very best steels with Carbonitride Titanium Blades. These blades are 10x harder than untreated steel and will stay sharper for a longer period of time, while resisting rust, stains and corrosion. Included in the folding knife category are knives that feature Marlin Spikes along with the CUDA® and Lev-R-Lok® lines of quick-action blade knives.

The blade's got a very fine edge out of the box. I've not used it much for cutting, as I am working a lot with paracord, and I can get cleaned cuts with my old Fiskers telecom scissors (or, any scissors). Any knife blade would have this issue, as tensioning the cord to cut it with a blade results in a less than clean cut.
One feature I liked is that both the spike and the blade lock (spike release is the lanyard loop, the blade is liner locked). Other knife/combo products I looked at don't have a locking blade, which I'm not a fan of.
I like that both the blade and the marlin spike will lock open, although to me, a locking blade is not necessary and makes one handed operation a bit more difficult. The only reason I like my older knife as much is that, although it is heavier and it won't hold its edge as well, it still is very comfortable in the hand and the spike release lever is a perfect size to act as a shackle opener for the very small shackles on some of my Star fittings and on the other small boats I often sail on. The Camillus does not have a Shackle opener, and the loop that unlocks the marlin spike is round and so does not work as a shackle opener.
The knife is solid as a rock, there is no play in the blade or marlin spike. The knurling on the grip is perfect and it is lined with thick metal similar to a Buck or Spyderco knife. The blade and marlin spike open and close with buttery smoothness with the perfect amount resistance. When the blade and marlin spike lock in the open position, they lock securely with a click and once again there is absolutely zero play as if the blade & spike are now welded in place. The factory sharpening on the blade is razor-sharp enough to cut hair and slice paper like butter. I believe this is due to the fact that the blade is made out of VG-10 (it has a stamp on the metal) which allows it to achieve high levels of sharpness. I can't wait to sharpen it on my Waterstones. Lastly I must admit it is a handsome blade , and taking into consideration its quality of blade metal and its construction I believe it could be sold at a price rivaling Spyderco. I will definitely be buying a few more considering its affordable price as gifts.
