Accomplished author Kathi Daley delivers everything a cozy mystery reader hopes for in exceptional book: realistic characters, strong family, friendship and community values, believable tightly woven plot with unexpected twists and turns, and an excellent story with an unexpected ending and delicious recipes! This captivating book will have readers turning pages late into the night. I wish I had some of Zoe’s chocolates to enjoy while reading this book! Highly recommended Camp Carter to anyone craving a summer themed cozy mystery.
Zak and another parent take a few kids on a hike to keep them occupied until all is in order and the other campers arrive. That leaves Zoe alone to do what she does best - walk right in on trouble.
Finding the camp cook stabbed and bleeding out in the kitchen pantry does not bode well for a relaxing weekend. As in other places this couple has visited, they get to know the local law enforcement officers quite well.
The theme of the book is twofold - find the murderer while keeping Zoe and baby Catherine safe, and appreciating family, regardless of how they enter your life and at what stage your relationship is. Zoe and Zak have a full house at home while the boathouse is being remodeled. It still feels better when Pi is able to come home for a summer stay and her parents and baby sister come visit.
While you can enjoy the books in this series as stand alone, it has been a pleasure watching Zoe mature and seeing her relationship with Zak and her best friends develop and change.
The characters are what drive this series, yet author Kathi Daley keeps each book fresh with new locations and intriguing puzzles for Zoe and the readers to solve.
