So I'm really struggling with my college BIO class. It's an internet class, and I haven't taken Biology since high school so I feel like I'm starting from scratch. My school has chosen to use a free e-textbook. While the cost savings is much appreciated, that thing is so choppy and confusing. I got the Campbell's 10th edition book from a seller for $14.20. It is so much better than the e-book I was using before. After reading through the topics on cell reproduction, I realized that the reason I wasn't getting it is because the book I was using skipped over key concepts that the Campbell's book explained, and even separated into chapters what the e-book had covered in a few paragraphs. No wonder I wasn't gettting it. I'm so glad I bought this textbook. I'm much more comfortable with the material now.

(This is not a textbook for me. Just did it out of personal interest. My background is engineering.)

A general college level Biology text book doesn't get any better than this. The book has gone through multiple editions, and it still holds information well together -- that can be a challenge when multiple authors join in later. Diagrams are wonderful. I had a chance to ask couple of its authors for clarifications, and they were very approachable.

Going through cell biology, and wonders of life explained, one comes out in awe of who we are. Highly recommended read :-)

BTW, the book by Sadava (Life. The science of Biology) is also very nice. In fact it was hard for me to choose between the two. Sadava is perhaps a bit more crisp in certain chapters, while Campbell in some others. I jumped back-n-forth. (Sorry, I am not really giving too much of a detailed comparison here, as most students don't have the luxury of choosing their textbooks.)

I bought this book in February 2021 and am using it as a self-study guide because my local and online colleges do not use Campbell Biology, and it looks like an amazing resource. I believed the great reviews, and I've been using it in conjunction with CLEP Biology study guides in order to earn 6 units of science to graduate with a Bachelor's this year. Unfortunately, when I tried to sign up for the MasteringBiology online tools, I was unable to register because my schools don't use this textbook. I was told at the online chat for this book that the Pearson publishing team decided just this year to stop permitting students to use the online study tools if they aren't enrolled in a course that uses the textbook. That's ridiculous, especially since the pandemic has not yet ended. I don't know why this would be what the publisher chose to do, but I'm rating this volume down since despite having the access key, I cannot use the online materials. I'm giving it one star because I can use the textbook, but I need the MasteringBiology online tools as well, and I paid for both book and access key, and now I cannot return them because I opened up the key code.

I've downloaded this textbook on a tablet and a desktop computer. When I try to open the book on a laptop of mine, I receive a dialog that titled 'License Limit Reached' with a message "You have exceeded the limit on the number of devices that can read this item" (see attached screenshot).

That is the reason I'm giving this e-Textbook a one-star review. I don't feel its unreasonable to want to read this book on a desktop, laptop, and tablet.

I rented this book online after seeing it on a list of recommended study materials for the FTCE Biology 6-12 test. I am a Psychology major who, through a series of events somehow ended up becoming a Science teacher.

Science was always my favorite subject in school, Biology in particular was my top favorite. Most of the material I haven't seen since I was in high school. When I found out I had to take the FTCE, I was very nervous! However, whenever I came across any concept I couldn't grasp, I turned to this book (which has EVERYTHING). I just took the FTCE on Saturday, and I passed!! I couldn't have done it without this book. Later on I plan to buy this book just to have it because it's such an amazing book. It's well-written and lays out all the concepts in a way that is easy understand, even for me!

I'll be passing the name of this book along to my colleagues.
