Having spent much of my professional career as a software developer, I have a set of expectations of what comprises a good technical reference. A great tech book, to me, is a quick reference for nitty-gritty details and gotchas, while also being a comfortable read that allows me to explore overarching concepts. 'Camtasia Studio and Beyond' achieves both of these goals stupendously, but it is so much more than just a technical reference. Before buying Camtasia I hadn’t fully appreciated the craft that goes into preparing a high quality presentation – and as a result I focused on the ‘what’ of my presentation rather than the ‘how’. As I struggled with my first videos I thought that I needed a tutorial on how to use Camtasia. After reading this book I realize that I really needed a guide to the process of creating an engaging video presentation.
'Camtasia Studio and Beyond' is a complete technical reference to Camtasia, SnagIt, and Jing; additionally it’s a complete guide for those who want to learn the art of making professional quality presentations.
I have now amended my provisional rating, and would like to point out to prospective buyers that the issue of the companion disc has been resolved in a very professional and patient way by the publishers and the author working together. Prospective buyers should also not overlook the inclusion in the publisher's description on the procedure for acquiring the code for the Kindle version.
