My kid's south facing, top level, furthest from the HVAC room was freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. Instead of getting one of those cheap HVAC boosters, I splurged for this thing. His room is now always a pleasant temperature. Check out the airflow difference in this video. I leave it on all the time.
One thing to be aware of, you will rob other air from other vents, you can't get the air for free. The vents on the same branch now have very little airflow, but since those vents are in rooms on the main floor off the living room (where the thermostat is), they do fine due to their proximity. Oh, and it's a little loud, but only in terms of the air that is being pushed through. The fan itself isn't very loud at all.
UPDATE: Year and a Half Later:
Since it's been a year and a half since I've had this installed, it's worth it to follow up to my review. Although it's not a duct booster, it has worked awesome as one. My kid's room is always a perfect temperature. My other rooms are fine, but your mileage may vary. The one that was robbed of most of its air has two returns in it. So either the returns or proximity to the living room make it pleasant at all times as well.
Installation was easy, it doesn't have a motor hanging off the side like some that will get in the way of joists or hang lower than the joists, and moves much more air then the cheap sheet metal ones.
It's been plugged in, running, 24/7, 365 without skipping a beat.
