4.0 out of 5 stars Loud! But okay with some modifications.
By Neddie on March 26, 2016
So the fan I got is not the one pictured, though it is a 6 inch Max-Fan. I posted a pic of what the fan I got looks like. It has a speed controller on the side and comes with mounting brackets.

When I turned it on it was so loud! I was hoping to put this in my bedroom on a low setting, but when turned on it sounds like a vacuum cleaner even on the lowest setting! It's much louder than another Can-Max fan I got a few years ago.

I ended up using rope ratchets to hang it from inside the tent (which dramatically reduced the vibration and sound), and used a ducting connector with foam wrapped around it on the outside of the tent to sort of act as a duct silencer. The combination of those two things made a huge difference and now the noise is definitely suitable for a room you plan to spend time in. On the lowest setting it sounds like a loud oscillating fan. It doesn't sound suspicious outside the room.

As far as the fan itself, it's really powerful. Even on the lowest setting it moves plenty of air for my 3'x3'x6' tent and keeps temps around 75°F with a 250W HPS. Overall I'm happy with it now that it's set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Duct Fan
By Chess Jurist on March 9, 2015
I have a parrot who resides in the Florida room at my new house. The room is not as well insulated as the rest of the house and wasn't getting it's fair share of the airflow from the HVAC system on top of that.

Enter the Can Max Fan and the problem was solved.

The duct to the Florida room is a 6-inch circular duct, so the fit was perfect.

This winter has been tough on the Midwest, sometimes sending us temps in the double-digit subzero range. But with the variable speed of the Can Max Fan, I merely needed to up the speed to address the harshest days.

Before installing the Can Max Fan, I used two space heaters to augment the HVAC in the Florida room -- until I got the first electric bill.

    Ouch!

The fan cut $100 off the electric bill the first month after installing it.

As spring approaches, I'll probably be able to set the speed of the fan to 0, the off position, until the dog days of summer.

The fan proved to be a perfect fix for my particular need. It is efficient, powerful, flexible, rugged, and well worth the investment in the right situation.

And I'm pleased to report the parrot is a happy camper once again:
