The Raspberry Pi can be used for many different types of projects and these kits from CanaKit give you everything you need to get started with just one stop. When I received the kit I ran into some issues that appeared to originate from the factory; therefore, it does not reflect on CanaKit. In fact CanaKit customer support went above and beyond in solving my issue.

If you are looking for everything you need to get started in the world of the Pi then it is a no-brainer to get your kit right here! Taking the time looking around to find each of these pieces might save you a buck or two, but why bother? Isn’t your time worth anything? I have bought allot of these boards from different venders and the customer support you get from this company is well worth the couple of dollars you pay for their service.

I am a contractor who is hired to build/design electronic devices to fit specific needs, and like everyone else I found myself with not enough hours in the day to do everything I needed too. This caused me to buy my first kit through this company because of the time it saved me in looking for each part individually.

Not only will I be buying from this company again, but I am going to look further into the different kits they offer. I don’t know about any of you out there, but great customer service means more to me than running into an issue once in a while.

Just to be clear: I do not work for this company and have no affiliation with them other than being a customer. When I write my reviews I base them totally on my personal experiences with the product and/or dealing with the company. I get nothing out of writing this review other than helping others decide whether or not to purchase this product from this company.

Decent starter kit, but the case is just ok

Let me start off by saying that this is the first Raspberry Pi (kit or otherwise) that I've ever purchased. This kit included almost everything to get started. Just pick up a micro sd card to install Raspbian and you're up and running in no time. The included on/off switch that attaches between the power supply and the Pi is probably my favorite feature of this kit, and the heatsinks were also a nice addition.

My only complaint about this kit is the case. Simply put, the corner nubs on the top just don't provide enough friction to keep it on. So as I was setting things up, the top cover just kept falling off. Now since space is at a premium, I had decided even before making this purchase, that I would be mounting the Pi on the wall where I have my network switches and router. Unfortunately, I am going to have to purchase a different case to accomplish this since the top of the case just won't stay on (short of taping it) when mounted on the wall.

That said, this is still a very decent starter kit and the issue with the top of the case shouldn't really concern you if you plan on just laying it on a desk/table/shelf, but be aware that the top is likely to fall off if you have to pick up your pi to plug another wire in, or to swap out the sd card, or otherwise have to move your pi. If the case were just a little better - clips or even a couple of screws to hold the top on, and this would have gotten 5 stars from me, but the fact that less than a few days after getting my kit, I've already begun shopping for a new case prevents me from going any higher than a 4, and frankly, it is enough of an annoyance that I would have given this 3 1/2 stars if that were possible.

This is my first Raspberry Pi and I wonder how I got along without one. It's so tiny and yet so powerful and handy. I use mine with my 3D printer. What makes the Raspberry Pi so darn cool is that it can be changed from one function to another by simply changing out one tiny SD card. I later added the Raspberry Pi camera so now I also have video available while I my printer is running. This is super convenient if I need to step out for a while. I can check in with my phone to make sure everything is going well, and if not, I can shut things down. I am not sure how I ever managed with out one. All I needed to do to get started was pickup a USB mouse and keyboard and plug in a monitor. Power it up and it's ready to go. Setting up the SD card was also very easy. There are a lot of videos on Youtube that show just how it's done. What could be better? What really makes it shine is the versatility and low cost. For me, it's a 3D printer controller, for someone else it's a retro game machine, and for another it's a file server. The versatility is amazing. If it breaks, just plug the SD into a new one are you are up and running again. What's not to love? It wasn't so many years ago that my entire desktop computer system had less power than this little Raspberry Pi does. That's really cool too.
