This album by the Canadian Brass presents excellent renditions of Christmas holiday favorites. The first number, “Ding Dong! Merrily On High,” has the Canadian Brass playing, along with an organ and bells frolicking in the background, a superbly intonated piece. The singing of the instruments is straight-forward, with the excellence in playing hinting at virtuosic performances here (if they wanted them to be). These are traditional Christmas songs, characteristic of the holiday season. I highly recommend this album to those seeking authentic traditional Christmas renditions of instrumental music.

This is one of my favorite Christmas CD's. I can't understand why it isn't more readily available. My first introduction to the Canadian Brass was a cassette tape of this album purchased in 1990. I fully agree with a previous reviewer who said this outshines any of the Canadian Brass's other holiday recordings. The variety of songs caters to Christmas lovers of all ages. The rendition of Winter Wonderland is absolutely outstanding. Unlike Kenny G's beautifully mellow take on the song, the CB's version is alive with the sound of New Orleans and Dixieland jazz. While all of the music is excellent, that song alone is worth the price of the CD.

I received the CD in excellent condition, in a reasonable length of time, and the price was unbeatable. This is a CD re-release of the ORIGINAL Canadian Brass Christmas LP (vinyl disc) from around 1985. This is a classic. The sound quality is excellent, the arrangements are terrific, there is a mix of secular and sacred songs, and the styles range from quiet and reverent to jazzy and lots of fun. I would recommend this disc for Canadian Brass fans, for anyone who likes brass quintets, or even for anyone who just wants a disc of pleasant Christmas background music.

I first listened to the Canadian Brass in the early 80"s with my mother. I had a cassette copy for several years. We lost mom in 1991 and after many years lost the cassette. I asked my sister if the CD still existed and after a few day of searching, could not be found. Last year (2012) I tried to find a copy online only to be amused by a price of almost $48.00. Bah Hum Bug I thought. But, this year I found a new copy on Amazon.com for $17.00 with shipping and I'm so excited to again enjoy the music. Quiet, yet so enjoyable...
Happy New Year.
