Founding member and tuba player extraordinaire Chuck Daellenbach has surrounded himself with a fresh crop of brilliant brass players. The new arrangement of The Flight of the Bumblebee by trumpeter Brandon Ridenour will leave you awe-struck! Takes Flight is a splendid mix of music that glances back at the group's legacy and sets their sights firmly on what lays ahead - wonderful music, amazing concerts and a continued dedication to their audience. The Canadian Brass - the world's greatest Brass Ensemble! On air performance interview - Classical 96. Dec. 20 In Concert - Roy Thomson Hall December 21.

Review

The Canadian Brass has been generating buzz about the brass quintet for more than 40 years. In concert, they're known for their
outstanding musicianship and their wacky theatrics. On their new CD,
Takes Flight, you'll get a taste of those unique stage antics, and a
full sense of what they've accomplished so far, as well as what's in store as they launch into their next era, with new faces and, as
always, fresh repertoire. --Minnesota Public Radio, Julie Amacher

10/10: If there's anything guaranteed in life, it's that you will be
thoroughly entertained, uplifted, and satisfied when you listen to a
Canadian Brass recording - any Canadian Brass recording. This is the
outfit that defined and still commands pre-eminence in the world of brass quintet music and performance, and here the group (with only one remaining original member, tuba virtuoso Chuck Daellenbach) offers a
killer program beginning with Flight of the Bumblebee and ending with
Don Gillis' arrangement of the gospel standard Just a Closer Walk with
Thee. There's all the wondrous technical bedazzlement and trademark humor, elevated to inimitable artistic heights by the awe-inspiring polish and always-present musicality. You ll love that juxtaposed
'When the saints' and the 'Hallelujah' chorus classic Canadian Brass,
as you will cherish the gorgeous and very moving Quintet by Michael
Kamen, the Gabrieli Canzona, and the Bach Air. Indispensable! --ClassicsToday.com, David Vernier

It's the music that counts, and the music is splendid, despite the sometimes jarring juxtapositions of the tunes. We get eighteen tracks that range from classical (Bach, Brahms, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov) to tangos to gospel to Dixieland jazz. Excellent sound.

I always enjoy the Canadian Brass and have been fortunate enough to hear them live twice. Their command of their respective brass instruments is flawless, even the french horn. I bought this one at their concert and got autographs from each member. My only complaint is the cardboard cover. I would have prefered a standard jewel case.

This is an amazing group. The technical skills of the musicians are unequaled in my experience. Every song on the CD is exceptionally well done and a joy to listen to.

The arrangements are inventive and interesting. The playing is, as usual, first-rate. In short, it is a very worthwhile CD to add to your collection.
