One of the things I really liked was the main character named James Marshall. I won't give any spoilers, but he's basically an altruistic guy trying to make the world better, BUT he -is- a politician and so he can't ignore all of the trappings that come with that job. And unlike a lot of politicians you see on TV and in other thrillers, this guy's family is really affected by the storm of events swirling around them. He has to make some tough decisions.
If you want a political thriller with a good story and a clever ending, I recommend this one.
Congressman James Marshall is forced to confront the reality of the war on drugs, and comes to a conclusion that few politicians would be prepared to voice in public. While his message resonates with voters, he becomes both a political outcast and a target for the Norte del Valle cartel, lead by the vicious and ruthless Carlos Rojas.
What follows is a rollercoaster ride of political maneuvering, murder, assassination, kidnap and double-crossing, all played out against a background of an ordinary man's courageous and determined attempt to become the President of the United States.
Even though I was busy with work and family commitments, I still managed to read the book within 24 hours of cracking it open. It's that much of a page-turner.
And when I finished, I couldn't help but hope that McLeay has already started working on a sequel.
