This easy-to-use standard zoom lens can cover a large zoom area ranging from 24mm wide-angle to 105mm portrait-length telephoto, and its Image Stabilizer Technology steadies camera shake up to three stops. Constructed with one Super-UD glass element and three aspherical lenses, this lens minimizes chromatic aberration and distortion. The result is excellent picture quality, even at wide apertures. Canon's ring-type USM gives silent but quick AF, along with full-time manual focus. Moreover, with dust- and moisture-resistant construction, this is a durable yet sophisticated lens that meets the demands of advanced amateur photographers and professional photographers alike.

Portraits - use it at 50mm to 80mm
Landscape - use it at 24mm
Subject in Distance - 104mm
It has you covered with all of your basic needs. Of course a prime lens at those focal lengths would probably be sharper and faster but we are talking an all in one lens. With a constant F4, capable of producing very sharp images, high resale value, and image stabilization, this is it.
It also came with a copy of the invoice with the Seller's business address and phone number, which I read will be needed for warranty.
Most of those who saw the pictures I took praised the quality. To me, the praises I received more than compensated for the price I paid for this lens. I am very happy about this purchase. I look forward to opportunities when I can use this lens again and again. I do highly recommend it.
To start the lens is larger than I expected and heavier. Please see the size and weight, it makes a big difference in the weight of the camera. The lens is heavier but not enough to hinder me carrying it around. as expected with any L lens it's well made and Pictures are Amazing (see other reviews for samples ). It is worth the extra money to get the L series.
I use the lens for my Children Mostly and landscape/ scenic pictures. If you were looking for something with a decent Zoom and Close-up this camera does the Job, for most. My children are in gymnastics and soccer. The picture quality at 105mm are not compromised and I was very happy. For Zooming Longer distances is a bit short; my next lens will be something 300mm. I would recemmend something up to 300mm if you want to see your children playing from a distance and crop in close. There is a 70-300mm DO that is much smaller than the White telephoto lenses but with the distance.
Overall, I am very happy with the lens. It's a great lens to walk-around or everyday. For children playing and portraits the quality is as expected, Amazing. I only carry 2 lenses and This is One of them.
I also found the zoom lens too small and crammed in towards the camera body.
If you are the casual / scenic shooter, this lens will probably be okay. If your an event photographer or have to take shots in a hurry, the lack of ergonomics (small zoom ring , aoom ring too close to camera, not precise zooming at 24mm end) would be a deal breaker.
