Price is great; even better if you're with Amazon Prime (free 2-day shipping and inexpensive overnight shipping).
You can get a better per cartridge of you buy them in Canon CLI-8 4-Color Multipack Ink Tanks. In that case each individual cartridge is a little less expensive. Canon package CL-8C (Cyan), CL-8M (Magenta), CL-8Y (Yellow), and CL-8BK (Black) as a pack ($40-44 on Amazon). When cartridges are sold in packs you might think those colors are used at similar rates... but that is not so.
I have kept track of the usage of the cartridges over a long period of time and would like to share these results with you.
Number of cartridges used
CL-8M Magenta = 5
CL-8Y Yellow = 8
CL-8B Black = 6
CL-8PC Photo Cyan = 6
CL-8PM Photo Magenta = 8
CL-8C Cyan = 4
My usage shows that yellow is used the most, followed closely by Photo Magenta, followed next by Black and Photo Cyan, and trailed by Cyan and Magenta. Note that I have a laser printer that I used for text otherwise the usage of the Black Cartridge would have been a lot higher.
I buy most of my color photo ink on-line from Amazon. However now that Staples began (again) accepting CL-8 cartridges for Staples Rewards in their recycling empty cartridges program, I wanted to analyze my usage to see which cartridges I should buy at Staples using my Staples Rewards.Read more ›
o no clogging,
o quality print,
o page count per cartridge printing,
o every cartridge printing when installed
The only negative would be their high pricing, but I guess it proves the old axiom "you get what you pay for".
I purchased the 8 ink tank multipack to tray and save money. I rated the multipack as 3stars because, while it is less expensive than buying individual ink tanks, a more cost effective option that Canon should offer is a 4pack that would include 1 cartridge each of Photo Magenta, Photo Cyan, Yellow and Cyan. These are the colors that are used by the printer by a factor of 2 to 1 of the others.
This particular printer model uses all 8 of these cartridges at once.
Listing Canon CLI-8 Value Pack BK/C/M/Y/PC/PM/R/G (0620B015) as I have stated, would prevent issues such as the gentlemen who wrote a review saying he had to return this item because he thought it was a double 4 pack so he ended up with 4 cartridges for which he had no use.
I've discovered that the inconvenience may outweigh the few dollars saved by purchasing the combination pack. My Cyan and Magenta cartridges lasted only 4 weeks and 6 weeks respectively while the others are still going. Purchasing more combination packs would have resulted in a backlog of unused ink. You might order the package now and then (I wish it included Black 5 ink), but given the staggered depletion of ink cartridges, it frequently makes more sense to order the single cartridge. Moreover, the combination of Amazon's one-click ordering and no-postage Prime membershp makes it no less practical for the consumer to order individual cartridges as they expire (though I'm sure Amazon prefers to send out large quantities in the same order).
