Top Customer Reviews
This IS genuine OEM Canon ink, and is NOT a knock off, refilled cartridges, or generic cartridges. This is the real deal.
I just received my packaging and actually had cancelled the order once because of the bad reviews. I realized that some people are just not that smart, and are either not ordering the correct ink for their product, or are reviewing the wrong vendor/product. The ink comes in a genuine OEM Canon box, with CANON on the cartridge as it should be on the top and on the tab. The cartridges are also solid black, just as a Canon cartridge should be. They are still wrapped so that may or may not be entirely obvious to you in the pictures, but they are all black. The chip is right where it needs to be, under the Canon labeled tab.
I've attached the pictures of my new inks. I highly recommend this product for you Canon product should this be the one you need
In two weeks, I have a showing. It is critical that the colors be true, and there's just no other ink that I would use than what goes with THIS Canon.
You save about $8 by buying all four at once, but that can be misleading since you don't use all inks at the same rate. I will only print my best nature photos, usually birds, butterflies, snakes, and such.
In order of use, I run through them as follows: Magenta, Cyan, Black, and Yellow. (My Canon printer takes a double wide Black and a regular black, but since I rarely use it for printing anything but photos, black is my lowest priority. (I have a 17 year old LaserJet IV for such printing.)
I do wish there was a way to buy Cyan and Magenta in "bulk," i.e., four of each, so that I can fulfill my lifelong dream: to die just as I run out of all four rather than having $200 in ink from a printer I no longer own. I have several B3 Black and Yellow cartridges from my previous Canon and, of course, they don't fit the 2 year old PIXMA.
I feel like the guy at the race track who says, "I hope I break even. I could use the money."
I like how the cartridge has a clear body. It is easy to verify if your printer says there is no ink left, you can check the cartridge. Fortunately, when the printer tells me that there is no ink left, there really is no ink left. Once, I saw that there was a single drop of ink stuck in the corner, which is pretty much useless because it is in an area that cannot be used by the print head.
I use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Canon inks because I found them to be more reliable. These come with an LED that blinks and indicates how much ink is left, which blinks faster with less ink. I used Canon-compatible inks on a previous printer (Canon MX310), which clogged the print head several times, the last of which damaged the print heads. The MX870 replaced this printer, and since I only use OEM Canon ink cartridges I have had no issues whatsoever.
On the other hand, OEM ink like this is so expensive. I'm actually thinking of just buying a different printer, but of course the starter ink cartridges that come with those printers are smaller (less ink) than the refills. And the price of non-OEM ink is much lower for most (if not all) other printers.
That's the sick game that the printer manufacturers have come up with - hook us with cheap printers, than gouge us for the ink refills. So, a begrudging three stars for this. The manufacturers pretty much have us on this one.
