The Canon EOS Elan II is an easy-to-use, full-featured SLR with advanced options. Both film loading and rewinding (High-Speed or Silent modes) are automatic. Other features include a 10-second-delay self-timer, 10 automatic exposure mode choices, three-point autofocus, and a retractable automatic flash.
The EOS Elan II's key controls are positioned for easy access. This camera also provides feedback-confirming control inputs and camera functions via a two-dial and metering-mode lever, a quick-control dial, an AF-mode dial, a film-advance mode lever, and an LCD panel. In addition, Canon's AIM system integrates standard AE, flash AE, and autofocus information.

But you buy a camera for the quality of its pictures, and the Elan II excels in this regard. I agree with other reviewers that you should upgrade to a better lens than the one that comes with it, but this body will help you get the outstanding photos you want.
This is the perfect camera for all levels of expertise, except perhaps for the total professional. I was a beginner when I bought the Elan II, and it was simple enough for me to use out of the box. Now that I've been studying photography for a couple years, I still haven't outgrown this camera. It has all the advanced features you want. It allows you to go fully manual or fully automatic, plus any combination in between. The controls are intuitively laid out and simple to use. And don't underestimate the value of having access to Canon's complete line of EOS lenses.
The company that sold me this camera said it had been tested and was working perfectly (bought the camera used). However when I got it and started using it, an error message would flash on the display, and Id have to press the shutter twice to be able to take another picture. More annoying than anything else. Other than that, this is an awesome camera for the price.
